    Great Stay With Friendly Staff

    rating02 Dec 2025

I had a great experience overall. The staff was very friendly, and the breakfast was good. Room service was excellent, and everything was very clean. The only inconvenience was that I kept having issues with my room key card. It was also a bit noisy at times, but nothing that affected the experience — likely due to the hotel being located on the main road, Avenida das Américas.

Fraudulent use of my credit card

    rating09 Jan 2018

1.- Hotel staff use my credit card to commit fraud (I use it to book the hotel by Internet (US$ 1.450, it is not a little fraud amount)2.- Air conditioning impossible to use at night extremely noisy3.- Very short bed sheets4.- In 5 days I could never get the remote control of the TV5.- Place for breakfast very small. Every day I need to wait for a table.6.- The shower wets the bathroom

    Stayed here for 30 days...

    rating26 Aug 2016

I stayed in this hotel for 30 days due to work. Gaivota was one of the media hotels for the Olympic Games, i.e. media buses stopped right in front to pick up people with media credentials to MPC/IBC/MTM. Some local colleagues told me that this hotel used to be a "love motel."First of all, I have to stress the friendliness of the staff, front desk and the restaurant even though quite a few of them don't even speak English. With gestures, broken Portuguese and smiles, you can make yourself understood somewhat. One staff, Flavio speak descent English and some Chinese and other languages. The manager, a lady speaks fluent English and she was quite helpful. My room was very standard and baritone with only one bulk in the ceiling. There is one double bed (put together with two single beds), one night stand, and a desk, but no other lights available. I have seen other rooms with two beds (one large and one single bed), three beds (three single beds), but they pretty much have two night stands, one desk and other lighting on the wall. The bathroom is very standard, no bathtub at all (not in one single room), only shower, a sink and a commode. The water pressure ( I was on the 4th floor) was quite good. You have to ask for a hair dryer from the front deskWhen all of my colleagues checked in, the hotel ran out of hair dryers. The staff went in to rooms (those of us who came weeks earlier than others) in search for hair dryers. They would leave a note saying that they took the hair dryers. Then they gave the hair dryers to the new comers. Some of us decided to lock our hair dryers in the safe so the staff wouldn't get their hands on our hair dryers. After a couple of days, the management finally went to the store and purchased more hair dryers for the guests. The whole hotel looks like a dorm. If people talk in the hallway, you definitely can hear it in your room. When one colleague came back, you could hear it and colleagues would pop out their heads and see who "came home" from work. It was quite funny. Once, a man was arguing with his roommate 6:00 am and every room could hear it. In general, the whole hotel is noisy. A pair of ear plugs would helpThe maids started out quite early in the morning. I usually heard them around 6:30 am. Some maids would clean your room even thought you had the do not disturb sign out. They probably saw me leave or they thought I put the sign out the wrong side up. The breakfast was ok with lots of fruits (watermelons, papayas, honeydew, mangoes, bananas, apples, etc.) Hot food included scramble eggs and pieces of hot dogs. The bread wasn't that good, kind of crumbly. There was also cereals, coffee, milk, tea, cold cuts, yogurt, etc. There was a machine that you can make hot sandwiches. After 30 days, the breakfast did get old. Some of my colleagues would go to the restaurant Boulangeries for breakfast after having the fruits at the hotel. The hotel is situated at in a very safe neighborhood with posh houses and condos. There are many restaurants, super makers and grocery stores nearby. Beach is 5 minutes away on foot. There is a also a very big gym (Bodytech) with two swimming pools 5 minutes walking distance. Day pass is 70 reals. I experienced two power outages in the hotel during my stay. Other than that, there was no serious problems. The front desk could book you tours, taxis if they understand what you say. I had to get my room key fixed several times.

    Ok but needs work

    rating10 Feb 2016

Stayed on recommendations from Brazilian friends and generally happy with stay but unfortunately I do have some small criticisms. The electronic card system for bedroom access is rubbish and cards needed resetting 2-3 times a day. Bathroom is very tired with towel rail falling off wall and shower not very clean. The breakfast was very good with good range of food and the buffet lunch was also of decent quality. However the restaurant in the evening is to be avoided. It has waiters who would rather play on their mobiles, no wine, very limited menu and a general feeling that they would sooner see you eat elsewhere (which we did). All in all not to bad for the money but even budget hotels should surely try to get better?
