    Unsafe and deeply disturbing experience: Hotel gave strangers access to my room at 3 am

    One of the worst hotel security incidents I’ve ever experienced. At 3 AM, two male guests opened the door to my room while I was sleeping because the hotel mistakenly gave them access to my room.The room phone was also not working, so I had no way to contact reception immediately after the incident.Management acknowledged it was their mistake, but neither the hotel nor Booking provided any meaningful resolution afterward. Very disturbing experience.Additionally, the hotel is poorly maintained, outdated, and not very clean.

    DONT GO the room is full of BED BUGSAwful experience. No housekeeping for three days. Towels with holes or stains.Management with no customer skills to find a proper solution

    Such a GREAT staff always ready to help, Diogo is an amazing person. The location is pretty good near Cantagalo station and also supermarkets , drugstores and the beach. The only thing that wasn’t good was the air conditioning in the room… it’s too noise and unfortunately I would point out the uncomfortable mattress. The shower is great and breakfast is also good.

    2025 NYE Stay & Bedbugs Experience

    Terrible Experience with Bedbugs and Unhelpful Staff at Augusto’s Copacabana HotelMy friend and I stayed at Augusto’s Copacabana Hotel during New Year’s Eve 2024, and although it was not a great experience, we decided to give it another chance in 2025. The main reason we returned was that it was significantly cheaper than most other hotels in the area during the same period.For this stay, we paid extra for a larger and supposedly better room. While we did receive a bigger room, the quality was still extremely poor. The conditions were so unacceptable that we later discovered the cause of the bite rashes we endured for five out of our seven days there was a bedbug infestation. We were unknowingly being bitten for several days, which is not only disturbing but also a serious public health concern due to the potential risk of bacterial infections.What made this situation even worse was the hotel staff’s response. The staff and management were dismissive and completely unhelpful. They consistently minimized the severity of the issue, treating it as a minor inconvenience rather than acknowledging that this went far beyond a typical “bad hotel experience.” Despite our attempts to explain the health risks and the distress caused, our concerns were brushed off.We requested a partial refund to account for the significant discomfort and disruption to our trip, but both the reception staff and hotel managers told us that this “would never be approved.” There was no empathy, no accountability, and no genuine effort to resolve the situation.This entire ordeal severely impacted our holiday and overshadowed what was meant to be an enjoyable vacation in Rio de Janeiro. Below is a video documenting our bedbug experience. I strongly caution anyone considering this hotel to think twice before booking.

    This place has potential. Positives: The staff are lovely and the rooms are bigNegatives: The place desperately needs to repaint and a renovation of their rooms. There is dirty hand marks on the walls, all of the fixtures had chips and/or bog holding them together. The place just looks dirty (though it is not). There is only one lift, and it is slow. You often had to wait 3-5 mins to get a left which is frustrating. The walls are paper thin.The breakfast had positives and negatives – there was a lot of variety. However, the single toaster looked like it was from the 80’s with burn marks on it and the sandwich press was covered in random food from yesteryear. The hot food was congealing and it was fly blown. If you have the breakfast, go in early and don't use the toaster or you may get electrocuted. Overall, this place has potential, but it just needs some money spent on it. I could not recommend it until that happens.
