I Got Stolen at This Hotel

    rating07 May 2025

If you're planning to stay here, make sure to pack something extra: receipts for every item you own — even if you bought it five years ago. Why? Because when something gets stolen (and trust me, it can), this hotel might ask you to provide proof for things you didn’t even realize needed proving. Like it’s a customs inspection, not a vacation. Here’s what happened to me:I left my backpack in the luggage area the hotel provided, assuming it was a secure space meant for guests. Spoiler alert: it wasn’t. Access seemed open to anyone entering the lobby. In fact, that’s exactly what someone did: walked in, took my backpack, and left. Just like that.At the time, there was only one staff member at the front desk — who was, impressively, multitasking as receptionist, luggage handler, and hotel security all at once. With such an efficient setup, what could possibly go wrong?Well, I lost all my valuable belongings. Camera, electronics, personal items — gone. And let’s not even get into the sentimental value: our camera had all the photos from my and my wife's first trip together, memories now completely lost. But hey, at least the hotel got to save on payroll, right? When I reported the incident, I was initially told the matter would be taken seriously. Great — until the follow-up began. Suddenly, progress stalled. Then came the big ask: “Please provide receipts for everything that was stolen.” A practical request — if I were a walking filing cabinet. But I’m just a tourist, from another country, traveling in Brazil. Who crosses borders with a folder of receipts for every personal item in their luggage? Do people usually itemize their socks? It quickly became clear that resolving the issue wasn’t a priority. It felt more like a strategy: delay, ask for impossible things, and hope the guest gives up. So no — don’t expect any compensation. Don’t expect a solution. Don’t even expect accountability. To future guests: don’t trust the luggage area, and don’t trust vague promises that management “takes this seriously.” Although they said they said that, their handling of the situation suggested otherwise. All I did was trust the hotel with my belongings — and that turned out to be the biggest mistake of my trip.

    Good value in Rio Centro

    rating10 Feb 2024

Efficient checkin and checkout with pleasant staff speaking very good English. Good clean hotel with spacious rooms. Only be active is if your room faces out onto Rua Riachuelo which is a busy thoroughfare day and night through the centre. Bad hospitality

    rating18 Mar 2023

In general the hotel is OK. The room is good, and housekeeping also. A good point is that they serve nice cocktails in the rooftop bar. I rated 2 points because service in general is not good, unfortunately people are not very nice, they're not welcoming. I had a very unpleasant experience with one of the receptionist "Andre" , he treated me and other people so badly, unbelievable. If you're looking for hospitality, this is not the place. Also, don't ask for something to be repaired because that won't happen. Gustavo Junior, Gerente geral at Casa Nova Hotel, responded to this review Olá! Average hotel and inefficient staff.

    rating14 Feb 2022

Room was descent, breakfast was average. Staff wasn’t so friendly, and most disappointing was the wait at the check-in. Not only that early check-in was impossible, due to over load and ineffectiveness of the hotel, they made us wait for about an hour after the specified time in a waiting list for check-in, along with many others.

    Boas instalações

    rating13 Dec 2021

Very good room. Spacious, nice bed, hot and strong shower. Good facilities and interesting address. The reception Desk service is a bit confused due to overloaded capacity. Too few options for TV channels. Another negative point is the lack of a private parking lot. But these points didn't spoil the experience. I would return to it.
