  Stayed in a private double which was fine for what we paid. Staff all very friendly and helpful. Location really good for the beach and metro. Only problem is the hostel directly opposite who were very loud and noisy until 5am each day. Obviously nothing our hostel can do, although having sign's up saying to keep noise to a minimum after 10pm doesn't mean anything if opposite is stood outside having a party

  Safe and sound for a lone traveller

  I opted for a bed in the 10-bed female dorm at Carneval. Cost me $90 with an official airport taxi but for this uninitiated female solo traveller I just wanted to take the easiest route for arriving late on a Saturday night. Very much a young backpackers place, you will party and you will drink here if you don't go to the 'English' bar across the road which is where I did go and had a grand time chatting to the bar staff who were a bit older than my fellow bedmates (who were all lovely, by the way). It's as clean as it can be for a quick turnaround place, free drinks between 7-8pm and the staff were just lovely. Helpful and friendly. Short walk from the beach. I felt safe wandering at night here and the Metro is a block or so away. Only tiny grumble is that the photos on tripadvisor are not of the Ipanema site; it's a lot, lot smaller!

  Very nice hostel , the staff speaking many languages. Sold as a 10 bed dorm but was actually in a 8 bed with a en-suite with a good shower , beds were very comfortable and good air con that you can control yourself and is on 24hr. Good atmosphere in the common areas with free cocktails every night then drinks for purchase after. Very close to the beach where the hostel has its own stand where there are sun bed available for free for you to use. The only negatives would be that the door to the room was tricky to get into and cards not working so people trying to get in early in the morning and struggling so you would have to get out of bed to let them in , also the door to the bathroom was a sliding wooden door which would make the most horrendous noise when closing and opening and would wake everyone up if people using it in the middle of the night. Also cleaners would come in at random times to change the bin , latest we had was 11pm. Lockers below the bed allow you to lock your bag away but need to provide your own lock , it fit my large suitcase in but may struggle with a bulky rucksack as the space it’self is very slim and long , probs about 45cm height wise. Would recommend tho nice hostel!

  Cool place to visit with a fun bar and drinking area that was always busy and fun to attend. The reception team helped out a lot when I wanted to go visit the maracana and even said I did not need to book the hostel trip but just head to the the store and buy my ticket there for less money which was good of them as I was really low of funds! Dormitories I stayed in had no difficulties but some of the shower areas needed to be cleaned to an improved level in my opinion. Its a cool hostel and not very expensive so It was a good stay from my memory!

  Solid atmosphere and good service

  Secure property with great location. Dorms had lockers that comfortably fit two trekking backpacks (you need a luggage lock style lock to lock it) Staff was friendly and spoke good English. Beach was a few blocks away and you could get free beach chairs. Free Carparini at 7:30pm is a great plus and made it easy to connect with people at the bar. Typical party hostel crowd. Not many English speakers when we were there, but that probably fluctuates. Only complaint is the common area bathroom was disgusting, even for hostel standards (stains, no soap, etc.).
