  I had a very disturbing experience at ibis Budget RJ Centro that future travelers should be aware of.On 27 March 2026, during check-in at the hotel reception, my backpack was stolen from the lobby sofa inside the hotel premises. This was not outside or on the street — it happened within the reception area while I was actively checking in.An official police report was filed with the Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro, which clearly confirms that the theft occurred inside the hotel, specifically in the reception area. I have attached a copy of the report (with personal details protected).Some of my documents were recovered the following day by the police, but all valuable items — including electronics and personal belongings — remain missing, resulting in a significant financial loss.What is most concerning is that an unauthorized individual was able to enter the hotel, take a guest’s belongings, and leave without any intervention. This raises serious questions about the level of security and monitoring in place at the property.Despite multiple follow-ups, the hotel’s response has been disappointing and has focused more on shifting responsibility onto the guest rather than addressing the security lapse within their premises.I strongly advise anyone staying here to be extremely cautious with their belongings, even inside the hotel reception area.

  This franchise of IBIS offered exactly what I expected from this budget-friendly chain: reliability without frills. The hotel delivered on its promise of clean, functional accommodations in an excellent central location. While it certainly won't wow you with luxury amenities or distinctive character, it provides a solid base for exploring the vibrant city of Rio. The value proposition is clear - you're paying for a convenient, safe, and straightforward place to sleep rather than a destination hotel experience. Perfect for business travelers or tourists who plan to spend most of their time outside enjoying Rio's attractions.LOCATION: The location is undoubtedly Ibis Centro's strongest selling point. Situated in downtown Rio, I found myself within walking distance of many key attractions, including the Municipal Theater, National Library, and Carioca Square.DINE + DRINK: The Buffet Breakfast at the lobby restaurant is quite basic but good enough to fuel yourself in the morning.ROOM: We stayed in Room 1051, so this review is based on that; SIZE: Spacious enough for 2 adults and simple baggage; VIEW: Sweet view of the city; AIR-CON: Perfectly functioning cooler that helped in setting the perfect room temperature; BED: Comfortable - but very small - bed that played the expected part of putting us to sleep; BATHROOM: Small sized bathroom with a Stand-in shower; TOILETRIES: OK quality toiletries by Ibis's own brandFACILITIES: No Gym or Pool on siteSERVICE: Friendly staff that cared for all our needs with a smile and made us feel at home and well taken care of. HOW WIRED YOU WILL BE: Free Wi-Fi that works well all over the property, but the speed is very PATCHY and SLOW! Medium-sized Smart TV dishing out a wide variety of channels spanning sports, news, music, movies, and entertainment BUT ONLY IN PORTUGUESE!   Absolutely not. Waste of time and money

  Not worth the money. Imagine a hotel treating a Diamond member badly. First there is no soap, then I had toChange the rooms 2x because the ac wasn’t working, then their pitiful breakfast isn’t even included in a 70$ rate. Then someone steals the make upRoom sign and you return at 5 to 4 without the room being made…etc etc a hotel without any sense for me.   The staff was very friendly, and the hotel were very clean! We loved the breakfast and were happy with the option for late checkout. The room also is very spacious, centrally located at the heart of the city. Nice location, friendly staff and above all excellent customer service.   Worst experience ever!!! Stay away!

  Since we got to the hotel we got one disappointment after the other. 30mins to do the check-in, the staff was not organized at all and very lazy. We had a reservation for 2 rooms, one was on 2nd floor and the other one on the 6th, where in between we had 3 parking lots and couldn't go to each other rooms. No help there and of course no information about it. The rooms were very VERY dirty, the bathroom and most important the toilet hasn't been cleaned since at least the previous tenants. The floor was full of dust and dirt and there were trash under our bed. We stayed for 2 nights instead of the 4 we have booked and when we explained why we leave they were "shocked" but not enough obviously for them to do something about it. But this is not even the worst thing. After we left, we realized we forgot our wallet inside the security box of the one room. Number 277. I called the hotel on Wednesday night 22/02 to tell them about the wallet and the guy who picked up told me: "oh yes we found a wallet". When I asked why they haven't called us I got no answer, so I said keep it there we will pass by to pick it up and informed him that the wallet has money inside. His name is Rodrigo. Today 24/02 we passed by and no one knew anything about a wallet, so after 30 mins of waiting for them to find the guy how we spoke to on the phone, they brought the wallet EMPTY! The supervisor, Pamela, said that they found the wallet on the bed, inside a bag, inside the room but knew nothing more about it. So the wallet, walked out of the security box, got inside a bag, layed on the bed waiting for us to pick it up, but the 400 real that were inside, flew out on their own. As I informed the supervisor we expect our money to be brought back to us, cause if not we will proceed to all the necessary actions.
