Good Hotel, but the city needs better traffic management

    rating05 Jan 2020

The hotel is good for the price - nice room, nice breakfast - all clean and comfortable. But the location suffers the impact of a very heavy traffic during peak hours, so be prepared. So plan for that, by leaving earlier, and when coming back to the hotel, do yourself a favor - wait until 6:30 to 7 pm, when roads might be less jammed. Go to a bar, have a snack. You leave by 5pm, you will suffer. ary7435, General Manager at Mercure Rio de Janeiro Nova Iguacu, responded to this review wagnercs10We very much appreciate your comments regarding your stay at the Mercure Rio de Janeiro Nova Iguacu Hotel. Broken

    rating15 Feb 2018

This is a good example of the management not doing their job, in my room it was lovely to have tea making facilities but the kettle leaked and the lid didn't shut, the hair dryer in the bathroom didn't turn on and the door to the balcony didn't make a deal so when there was a storm (3 whilst I was there) the howling wind was almost unbearable (fortunately I had noise cancelling headphones) after there was a storm that kicked out the electricity in the rooms, there was no breakfast on offer (surely you would have a backup on offer) one of the lifts were broken and some of the lights in my room did not work, one of the nights I wanted room service and when I called for it all I got was an answer of 'no speak English' then the phone hung up, surely if you know you have a guest staying that doesn't speak Brazilian Portuguese you would keep someone on staff that speaks or at least understands English at all times, the pool area was nice, the rooms were clean (although pillow cases don't stay on pillows and pillows are old) and very good spread for breakfast, location was horrible but that one is my fault. Very satisfied

    rating06 Dec 2017

Very special thanks to Bruno and Herbert from Reception. I go to the hotel every 15 days and every single time i am well supported by them, in the morning when i arrive and during the stay. The only complaint i have is that the room cleaning wasn't so good this time, but i'm sure they will improve. I will spend the new year here and i am sure its going to be a great vacation. Good hotel in a really dodgy area

    rating23 Aug 2016

Stayed here during the olympics and it was everything younwoukd expect from a mervure. Helpful staff, big and clean rooms and modern throughout. Good customer service who were helpful in printing boarding passes etc off gor us and gave us plenty of advice.Be aware that this hotel is in a suburb and is about 40 miles from the centre. We used trains to get to the centre of rio and had to depart from the local station which was full of dodgy characters. The local area is similar. Be very aware of your belongings at all times. People will not think twice about stealing them. I caught several men staring at my husbands back ockets eyeing up their chances of a free phone or wallet. Also suggest that you do not go out in this area alone at night. It isnt safe and one evening a taxi driver even refused to take us there as he thought it was dangerous. If you want a cheap and high quality hotel then this is perfect but make sure you research the local area first.
