    Not a good experience

    rating06 Jan 2018

We stayed just a night and was enough. Dirt bed sheets, old furniture, horrible smell. If you look on internet the photos seems to be nice but the rooms are really humid. The breakfast was pretty much the same... Dirt dishes.

It has a roof and it was good service

Our group stayed here during the core of WYD activities (from Vigil with the Pope to the Meeting with NCW formators). It was a large group and the owners and staff took great care to make sure the kids had food, water, and that the facilities were in working fashion. I really can't complain because there were so many of us and during the course of our stay in Petropolis we fell ill.

Not as bad as some of these reviews make out!

    rating08 Aug 2013

Stayed three nights in the very quaint Riverside Park Hotel in early August. We were the only guests on one of the nights and there were only a couple of others on the other nights. Be warned though, little /no English is spoken, so take a dictionary with you!The hotel has a certain charm and is nowhere as bad as some of the reviews on Trip Advisor! Our room (105) was spacious, with air conditioning (didn't need it as it was rather chilly) and a large bed (yes, it was two singles pushed together, but with huge sheets so it felt like a proper King size). The bathroom was fine and the shower was hot. There was a fridge in the room and the room was cleaned and tidied each day, with fresh towels.Breakfast was fine, with fresh orange juice, fresh bread rolls, sliced bread, ham, cheese, fruit and several cakes. Can't complain for what we paid - about £42 per night B&B for two people! It was too cold to use the pool but it looked inviting. The gardens were lovely too. We had dinner in the restaurant on all three nights and were the only people eating. The food was good and was freshly cooked as we could hear it being prepared in the kitchen! The meals were nothing to write home about, but the pizza, chicken and lasagne were all ok and didn't cost a fortune. £15 bought two main meals and three beers! The communal areas are very colonial. The whole hotel is old fashioned, but its not run down like some people said in their reviews, its just old! You pay for what you get and we thought it was much better value than the Ibis in Rio and other hotels locally. It was convenient for the town and on the road to Teresopolis. There is even wifi near reception and we could just get it in our room.Overall, we thought it was good value but if you want the Ritz then don't stay here!

    quaint

Our tour company booked us into this hotel as an alternative to spending the night in Rio as the Eco + 20 conference in Rio had made finding rooms there almost impossible. The bus was barely able to get navigate the long drive into the hotel. The bus that picked us up the next morning didn't even try. We were eleven English speaking tourists and no one on staff that evening spoke our language. That being said, they were great, helping us in any way that they could. The grounds were lovely and the rooms were spacious and clean. Yes, very dated, but this somehow added to the atmosphere. Because we didn't know the area it was a problem for us that the hotel seemed to be quite a distance from anything else. We waited for dinner to be served and then figured out that it was being prepared for a private party so we ordered pizza. I would suggest this hotel for those who have a car.

    Need remodelling

    rating22 Jan 2012

The staff is superfriendly and the outside is pretty. But I have seen B&Bs better maintained. The furniture is old and unpractical. No AC in my room (although they provided me a fan, by request). The restaurant is the most critical piece: average breakfast and untasty food for lunch. The place really screams for remodelling. It is certainly fairly priced, but i don't intend to come back.
