    OK for the price

They could do better with the rooms, as they are shabby / worn. They lack of sockets in the bedroom, and air conditioner has 2 positions, ON or OFF, all buttons are missing. The window of the bedroom face a void with all othe bedrooms and condenser of the AC Unit, so it has to stay closed all the time due to the noise and heat. However saying that, breakfast is great, and Staff are really nice.

    Excellent value for Rio

    rating01 Nov 2016

If you are looking for somewhere cheap to stay in Rio de Janeiro and want just a good hotel as a base while sightseeing or relaxing on Copacabana Beach then the Rio Pompeu is the place for you. Situated downtown, away from the tourist-grabbers, this hotel offers excellent accommodation and breakfast for under £45l a night for a deluxe room. Make sure you book a suite on the (top) fifth floor. We stayed in room 501 for 15 nights which comprised a comfortable air conditioned bedroom, separate kitchen diner with fridge, marble floored bathroom with separate closed shower, Sauna room and Jacuzzi bath next to a penthouse balcony with table and chairs to savour the Rio atmosphere overlooked only by offices, empty at night. This spacious penthouse suite is supported by excellent service and wonderful restaurant serving tasty hot Brazilian food from 1100 to 2200 hours. The inclusive breakfast comprises both continental and hot food offering a range of fresh tropical fruits, cold meats and cheeses, a variety of breads and spreads and a range of hot drinks from fresh coffee, hot chocolate and half a dozen different teas to prepare yourself. Oh, I almost forgot; also British cereal breakfast for the kids. Just a fifteen minute walk from the museums and market life of the City this hotel is just seven minutes walk away from the Metro which will take you all the way through Rio and beyond for just £1.20 a ride as far as you want. We used it to sunbathe on the beautiful Copacabana and Ipanema beaches. If you dine in the restaurant then you will eat very well for an average of £6 a time. With a Bar range of fruit juices, spirits and wines at very reasonable prices, we enjoyed a nightly Campari and Soda brought to our Jacuzzi balcony. Enjoy this visit. A seasoned traveller.

    Average Hotel

    rating21 Aug 2016

It's an average hotel definitely nothing special but me and my friend enjoyed our stay because we weren't looking for anything special just a place to stay, also free breakfast which is great and in our room had a mini fridge with sodas, beers and water which would be restocked daily (you do pay for them at the end of your stay though but nothing too expensive) we originally wanted to stay in Copacabana area for the Olympics but the hotels were booked out so we ended up at Pompeu and to be honest I'm happy it worked out that way because I ended up exploring and getting to know both the Centro & Copacabana area which I doubt I would have done if I had originally stayed in Copacabana, overall I'm satisfied if you just need somewhere to stay and nothing luxurious then Pompeu Rio is the place. We booked the standard double room which had 2 mini beds.

Ok hotel for exploring the city

    rating17 May 2016

When we arrived in the evening we were a little bit disappointet about the neighbourhood, but we soon found out that the hotel is situated on historic grounds. The hotelmanager took us on a little stroll and showed us beautiful small streets and the places from which the history of Rio (and samba) startet. He had good knowledge of Rio's history. The hotel is only some minutes walk away from Urugaiana, a very cosey shopping area, and the subwaystation is also nearby. The hotelemployees did their best to make us feel at home, although only 2 guys (+ the manager) spoke english. The breakfast was not great but sufficient, with fresh fruit and some warm food every day. We had no complaints about the cleaning of the room (405) at all. Nice clean sheets! If you want a luxury holiday with kids on the beach this is no hotel for you, but if you want to explore the city it's ok. For the money you save on a luxury Ipanema hotel you can take a cab to the beaches ( or the Subway). The neighbourhood was safe during the day and early evening, but we took a cab late at night. I think that goes for the whole of Rio, doesn't it?We stayed at this hotel in 8 days, and we thought it was ok; not more, not less.
