  Some major issues that need addressing!

  Stayed at Stay Hotel Plovdiv for 3 nights, costing just over £150 in total, which felt like decent value for the location. Without a doubt, the best thing about this hotel is where it’s situated – perfectly central, with plenty of shops, restaurants and bars all within a 5-minute walk.The reception staff were also a real positive. They always greeted you warmly when coming and going, and were especially helpful on my last day by arranging a taxi for me, even though I had returned hours after checking out.The room itself was acceptable but a little tired. It was nicely decorated, but you could see signs of wear and tear such as marks on the walls and general signs of age. It was also on the smaller side, although this was expected based on the photos on the booking site. The free Wi-Fi was excellent throughout the stay – strong and reliable with no issues.Unfortunately, that’s where any positives end. When I arrived (3rd floor room), I checked in early as reception said my room was ready. I got to the floor and all room doors were wide open, with the bathroom doors open too, but didn’t think anything of it at the time. However, I later realised they were airing the rooms out because of the strong sewage smell coming from the bathroom drains. This was extremely unpleasant and clearly an ongoing issue, as it’s mentioned in other reviews.The shower also caused the bathroom floor to flood due to a missing or ineffective seal under the glass screen, meaning water spread everywhere after each use.Housekeeping was lacklustre too. After leaving the sign requesting the room be cleaned, only the towels were changed and the bin emptied. The bed wasn’t made at all, the flooded bathroom floor wasn’t cleaned, and nothing was done to address the drain smell. After that, it felt easier just to request fresh towels and toilet roll when needed rather than ask for cleaning again.Overall, this hotel has an unbeatable central location and friendly staff, but the maintenance issues and poor housekeeping let it down badly. No way could I recommend this hotel, and I have in fact told many friends and family to avoid it.

  nicely refurbished hotel in the heart of Plovdiv

  An older-style communist hotel that has been given a modern makeover, it is extremely conveniently located for the centre of the city and seeing the main sights and especially the old town. Its clean, modern and reception was efficient and friendly on check in and check out. The positives: Its clean, functional and the beds are really comfy. The rooms are well equipped with safe, kettle and fridge and the furnishings are modern and tidy. Their own website is really good and if you book direct and register, there are some genuine savings to be had over using the booking sites which makes a nice change. No issues with smells or floodsThe negatives: If you are not a fan of lifts, be aware that the hotel has older style southern/eastern european lifts with a single 'slam-door'. It's safe, just a little unnerving for those used to silky-smooth double sliding doors and not being able to see and touch the moving elevator! Basic rooms are small - fine for one person with a rucksack but two of you for more than a night and there really isn't enough room. Bathroom is the strangest layout ever with sink actually inside the shower cubicle - a bit annoying as you get wet feet if you just want to wash your hands after a shower. I would suggest booking a bigger room - it will be worth the money! No breakfast option but there are so many restaurants and cafes around, you aren't really missing out. This is what is is, a good value, solid hotel which is conveniently located and ticks lots of boxes for a pleasant stay.

  Awful smell and spiders

  The hotel is located on a great place, walking distance of the most interesting points and restaurants. There is an extremely bad smell, coming from the bathroom canal, so bad that I was waking up from the smell couple of times. This is the top 1 reason I will not come back to this particular hotel, despite the location. (Constantly smell like shi*ts)There are double windows and in between them it is full with spider webs - good luck if you are allergic. The mini bar was absolutely empty, no event a bottle of water.In overall, the hotel seems normal at first glance, but within the first hours those things mentioned above starts annoying very much.   The rooms were absolutely tiny and so was the bathroom. It was all very claustrophobic. We had stayed there previously and the rooms were quite spacious. Would not recommend however location is ideal.

  We booked a junior suite and enjoyed a very pleasant room with all the usual amenities.There was a very long and dark corridor to get to our room which is OK as long as you don't drop anything and expect to find it again.The hotel is ideally situated for exploring Plovdiv and filled our needs perfectly. If you choose to include breakfast with your booking you have to go to a café about 40 yards away. The breakfast is nice enough but the menu is very limited.The big plus point about this hotel is the reception staff who are so nice and friendly.This hotel is recommended for a short stay in Plovdiv.
