A place to avoid

I spent one night at Hotel Downtown on a business trip to Sofia ????. It was a very bad experience from start to finish. Due to a flight delay I arrived very late, around 1:30 am. The duty manager could barely speak a few words of English and just handed out the room key to me. I went straight to the room, just to find out that it had not been made up. Sheets and towels were scattered on the bed. At the second attempt I was given a room with two single beds (number 602) but not without issues. The air conditioning was very noisy. The bathroom roof was leaking water. The sink drain could not open and therefore water could not flow out. The room decoration was ugly and outdated. The breakfast did not improve the experience. The food items were displayed in a small room adjacent to the restaurant, everything looking like more a canteen than a welcoming hotel breakfast buffet. Plates were missing - I had to ask the waiter - and the quality of the items such as breads, crepes - cold - and fruits was quite low. The only nice feature was the fresh orange juice. Hotel Downtown was selected because of its central location close to my business meeting. The location is indeed the hotel's strongest point but it really is the only one and in any case not a strong enough one to return.

To be forgotten

I was in this Hotel for 6 days. An experience to be forgotten! No air conditions and it was almost 40 °C degree only a weak fan in the room called “air conditioning”. I choose a Hotel with the restaurant, all the dinners were already paid but it was a nightmare. No possibility to chose anything, the meal was already decided. in a Cantine is better. I informed them that I don’t eat onion and garlic and I was served with garlic smashed potatos and onions and sausage which I had refused the day before. I think in Gail people are treated better.No napkins, no bread…Never more

Pros.Pleasent staff. Great options for breakfast. Excellent location and five minutes walk from the city centre. The rooms are spacious and the isolation is great - you can't hear the noise from the outside. Cons.The hairdryer in the bathroom is really weak. If you have long or thick hair it's gonna take awhile. The linens and the mattress cover are not made from a nice material. We would all wake up sweaty on the side on which we slept on.All in all, a really pleasant stay.

Small and simple hotel, very small rooms. Towels are not changed until requested, and there is no shampoo or shower gel! We were in a large room with an open window and they moved us to a smaller room where there were cockroaches!!! There were literally insects on the ceiling and the floor!! It was so disgusting that we didn't sleep at night and when we came to complain they said that nothing could be done and maybe they entered through the window we opened even though in the previous room nothing entered through the window!!! Insolence and disgust!!! Do not go to this hotel!! Unnice people and terrible service!!!!!!!!

I was very disappointed overall with this hotel. Pros: good location - you are about 15 min from the palace metro and sofia is small you can walk most places, clean, some fresh fruit at breakfast, the breakfast staff were very niceCons: the spa/sauna was not open breakfast was just okno hotel staff late at night other than a guy who says he is only 'security'there was a fridge in the room but no minibar as the website statesThe pictures on the website are seriously misleading, the hotel is old and needs updatingSome Front desk staff were not very friendlyOverpriced - about 115 euros per night it is not worth thisDefinitely NOT 4 star!It is super loud if your room faces the street. The street is not so busy so I think the windows are not as sound proof as they mention on the website
