    A stay of real contrasts, with plenty to like but a few things worth knowing before you book.The rooms are the highlight: spacious, very comfortable beds, and a beautiful bathroom with an enormous bath. Two caveats. The standard pillows are poor, so make use of the pillow menu — it's there for a reason. And there's no soap or gel anywhere near the bath itself, so you have to climb out and go over to the shower, where it's wall-mounted. A small thing, but odd in a room this well appointed.Finish quality is inconsistent. My room had a cracked window, which is a little unnerving in a glass building, and a downlight in the bathroom that had been plastered in very roughly and was still waiting to be painted.Service is similarly mixed. Half the staff were warm and genuinely helpful; the other half were brusque to the point of rudeness. It made for a strange, unpredictable experience.Two other things to be aware of. The hotel charges separately for almost everything, including access to the pool and steam room, which is unusual — most hotels include it. And with only six lifts serving a very large building, mornings are a real bottleneck. I waited fifteen minutes for a lift today.Breakfast itself is good, with a solid selection. Getting to it at peak time is the hard part.Decent value, but I would probably not stay here again.     Great first visit to Sofia and stay at the Grand hotel sofia.

    The hotel is in a perfect location to explore Sofia. Staff were friendly and welcoming giving us a map of the area and helping us with transport questions. Our room was amazing. Biggest room I have stayed in and at a reasonable price. Views of Mount Vitosh were fantastic from our window.     I enjoyed my stay at the Grand Hotel Sofia. As you can see from my photos, my room was quite grand! I enjoyed the central location and the comfortable room. The breakfast buffet had a good variety of items.     Fantastic rooms. 10/10. Great location, close to everything. Lovely/helpful staff, especially the night porters. Didn't try the restaurant. Bar is very expensive.
