    3 nights in Sofia ♥️

    rating10 Apr 2026

We stayed for 3 nights in The Sofia Balkan Palace. We booked room 411 and it was spectacular. The room had a view of the city and the magnificent church. The breakfast was huge. The reception staff were very friendly and polite.

5 star hotel with 3 star service

    rating08 Apr 2026

5-star rated hotel without 5-star service. This is a stunning palace building and could not be more perfectly located; however, services and amenities within need refinement and fine-tuning to meet the expectations of what 5-star means to international guests. The breakfast was beautifully displayed and abundant, but food was cold and there are only three self-serve coffee kiosks for the entire large space - long lines just for retrieving coffee.Housekeeping was less than par. We stayed four nights and all three days our room was skipped. We had to call for clean linens and emptying of trash daily. Hallway carpets were not vacuumed until we mentioned the heavy crumbs and debris that had been there for two days. Front desk personnel do not communicate with each other. Messages were not relayed for airport transfers and others requests. It seems the left hand did not know what the right hand was doing. These small easily-fixable things would have made for a more comfortable stay. Until they can iron out these inferiorities, expect 3-star service in a 5-star hotel.

    Beautiful property

    rating26 Mar 2026

Very large property which has been well maintained. Great central location and 3-5 minute walk to metro. Room was average size for a city centre property. Beautifully decorated! Very comfortable bed with all mod cons. Bathroom was a good size with nice toiletries. Staff were a little bit and miss. I accidentally left my Chanel earrings in the room and they disappeared despite calling multiple times

    Great hotel just not 5star

    rating23 Mar 2026

Sofia Balkan Palace, an absolutely beautiful building, on our arrival we were told we had been upgraded free of charge which was lovely, a lovely young man took our bags to our room. He was really polite..the room was well equipped and all toiletries were Clarins. The breakfast has a brilliant selection so nobody can go hungry.breakfast Staff are very helpful but as the days went on you could see they were under pressure and things weren’t getting cleaned or replenished and two of the coffee machines broke down which left one, which was chaotic. Our room wasn’t done every day which for a 5 star hotel you would expect and when we did ask them for clean towels they were really rude, and one day they just walked in on us didn’t even knock! Going back to Reception,to see whether we could have a late checkout, there was a wonderful lady who said we could have our room for an extra hour or a different room on the first floor for the rest of the day that was complementary! So we opted for that which was more than adequate for a few hours left that we had. The hotel is perfectly situated for everything to see,it is a beautiful old building. A lot of it is wasted, so much Could be done with it. You are sitting on a gold mine Balkan Palace get it back to the way it was and you would definitely get your 5star rating, would I come back here again and stay at this hotel definitely?, It’s just not five star.
