Over 10 year old hotel showing signs of age

    rating18 May 2026

We checked into Fox Hotel and Suites in Banff for an overnight stay in May 2026, over a decade after our last stay here in 2013. The hotel is about 15 years old and near the edge of Banff (about a 10 min walk to town). Check-in went smoothly. The room was smaller than average, a little tight for 2 persons. Furnishing was ok. The room came with a kettle, coffeemaker and a Queen bed, but no fridge or microwave. The bathroom was also rather small, only one person can occupy the bathroom at any time, and instructions for turning on the shower was hard to understand – I finally got it, pull down the knob underneath the faucet, and the shower curtain was too short and allowed water from the shower to make the bathroom floor wet. There was no complementary breakfast, although breakfast (and lunch and dinner) is available at the on-site Chilli’s restaurant. There’s an indoor pool whose ceiling is open-air and laundry room with 2 washers and 2 dryers in the basement. For some reason, WiFi internet was slow the day we stayed there. Hotel guests can park for free in the basement of the hotel, which is a plus as most hotels in Banff charge extra for parking. The hotel is over 12 years old and showing its age, some of the wall wooden panels are worn, the card sensor to our room door didn’t function well (I had to insert m card more than once to get into my room) and one of the table lamps’ shade in our room had holes in it. Maybe it’s time for a small renovation and updating.

    The Perfect Base in Banff!

    rating11 Dec 2025

We stayed at the Fox Suites for a couple of nights during the latter part of our Banff leg on our Rockies road trip. One of the main draws for us was the location — not right in downtown, but just a five-minute walk to all the action, which made getting around super easy without worrying about parking. The suite itself was spacious, featuring a large lounge area, a kitchenette, a bedroom with a king-sized bed, and a generously sized bathroom. One standout feature was the hot spring spa in the basement — not something you find at every hotel! It was the perfect way to unwind after a full day of exploring. The hotel also offers free parking underneath, though spaces are limited, so it’s worth keeping that in mind. Overall, it was a really comfortable and convenient stay.

    Quick family getaway

    rating06 Dec 2025

One night stay as quick getaway, ski day Saturday . The hotel is great for the price. We stayed in a double room. 2 adults 2 kids. The room was enough for what we wanted, beds were comfy. The room was clean, updated and quiet. We went down to the hot tub and it was such a cool experience. Would definitely recommend this a short stay location.

    Awful Hotel - Avoid

    rating02 Oct 2025

The room was awful. Very small, dingy and very worn. For example, a charity shop would not have accepted the sofa as a gift. I complained to the two guys on the front desk. They were clearly highly practiced at fobbing guests off and they just suggested cancelling my booking if I wasn’t happy. Not a realistic option late at night.I tried again next morning and saw Sarah. Her attitude was very different and took our concerns on board. Within an hour, she had arranged a transfer to a sister hotel - the Canoe up the road. This was a new and infinitely better place than the Fox.A member of staff told me the Fox opened in 2007 and has not been refurbished since. The room design is from a bygone era and everything is worn out. Avoid!
