Location

This hotel is located in the world-class resort town of Banff, in the heart of the Canadian Rockies, set amongst the majestic mountains in the protected landscape of Banff National Park. The hotel is situated on Banff Avenue in the midst of shops, restaurants, bars and clubs. The local Banff Transit buses operate along Banff Avenue and Calgary International Airport is the closest airport, just 90 minutes away by car.

Facility

The villas were built in 1908. 135 non-smoking rooms are located on 3 storeys and can be reached by lift. English- and French-speaking staff at the reception desk in the lobby are ready to assist you with check-in and check-out. Amenities include a baggage storage service, safe, cash machine and drinks machine. Wireless internet access in public areas allows guests to stay connected. The tour desk offers assistance with booking excursions. The hotel has a range of facilities for guests with disabilities. The hotel has wheelchair-accessible facilities. A fireplace creates a cosy atmosphere. There are a number of shops, including a supermarket. Guests of the hotel can enjoy various recreational facilities, including the garden, during their stay. Additional amenities include a TV room, a playroom and a library. Guests arriving by car can park their vehicles in the garage or in the car park (for a fee). Further services and facilities include a transfer service, room service, a laundry service, a hairdresser and a hotel shuttle bus. Bicycles can be kept in the bicycle storage area. Rooms

Rooms are equipped with air conditioning and individually adjustable heating. All rooms are carpeted and include a double bed or a king-size bed. Extra beds can be requested. A safe and a desk are also available. Guests will also find a tea/coffee station included among the standard features. An ironing set is provided for guests' convenience. A direct dial telephone, a television with satellite/cable channels, a radio, an alarm clock and WiFi (no extra charge) are provided as well. Bathrooms are equipped with a shower and a bathtub, as well as a hairdryer. For extra comfort in the bathrooms, guests are offered cosmetic products. Wheelchair-friendly rooms can be booked. Family rooms are available for parents with children.

Sport

The indoor and outdoor pools are ideal for exercise as well as relaxation. Parasols on the terrace are also available. The hot tub in the pool area promises pure relaxation. The hotel offers an extensive outdoor sports programme, including cycling/mountain biking, golf, fishing and horse riding. Water sports enthusiasts are offered canoeing. With skiing, tobogganing fun and snowboarding opportunities, the hotel offers the perfect base from which to enjoy winter sports or just a relaxing winter holiday. Ski passes are available locally. The hotel offers indoor sporting activities in the form of billiards. Various wellness options are available at the hotel, including a spa, a sauna, a steam bath, hydrotherapy treatments and a solarium.

Meals

Various dining options are available, including a café, a bar and a pub. The non-smoking restaurant provides high chairs for children. A continental breakfast buffet guarantees a great start to the day. At lunch and dinner, guests can choose between à la carte and a set menu. Staff are also happy to provide children's meals.

    The room was crazy loud, I'd asked for an accessible room for my Mum and they put us in a room that was the furthest away from the elevator meaning she had to walk a long way. It was also a corner room facing the street and the room was so loud! It was Saturday and people were being loud and drunk outside of the window until 3am. I should have guessed this was a loud room as there were complimentary ear plugs on the bedside table. Mum can't wear ear plugs so she didn't sleep at all. The rooms, in fact the whole hotel is dark and gloomy, the beds were comfortable and the shower was good but I think the hotel is really over priced for what it is.     Our favourite hotel in Banff

    We had a lovely stay at the Mount Royal. There was a ceiling leak on our first night, but the maintenance staff fixed the problem quickly and effectively. The hotel is well located, and has a nice historic feel. Our Junior Suite had a great view over the main street and mountains. The room was very comfortable and quiet. Not just the bed and pillows (fantastic), but also the sofa, which is uncommon. Lovely renovated bathroom and kitchenette, and great hot tubs with amazing views. Also enjoyed the library, free morning cappuccinos, and for skiers, the Lake Louise and Sunshine shuttle buses pick you up right outside the hotel, which is fantastic.

    We will not come again. Parking was simply full. The room was the worst I stayed in. There is a vent right above my head! ..and very thoughtful a pair of ear plugs left on a table for me.. Combine those 2 things and imagine how I slept!!

    This old hotel with history as sections to it is in a great location right in the centre of Banff and access to local restaurants and shops is perfect, and if you're a skier or boarder the shuttle stops right at the back of the hotel. The hotel has ski storage and a 2 hot tubs on the roof which we actually didn't use as we noticed no-one had a shower before getting into them even though it states you should! We think that this could maybe be reinforced by reception staff when clients arrive. The staff here couldn't do enough for us and every request was met by them in a timely manner. Things that we think are lacking. 1.There are no hooks or shelving for gloves , helmet, wet ski jackets etc and this is also very relevant to people who do other activitirs.such as hiking MTB etc.2 The lighting in the main room is very poor and hard to see your stuff when daylight has gone. 3. There were not enough options for breakfast for plant based/ vegan diets.4 Not enough hooks in bathroom to hang robes/ towels etc to dry them after use. 5. You are told to keep ski boots in your room but there is no mat or place to.put them after you come off slopes with snowed up boots thus leaving pool of water and ruining the carpets in the hotel. These are mearly suggestions to improve the hotel and we actually loved our stay and would highly recommend this place. Beds really comfy and hotel very clean.

    We did not stay at Mount Royal but when it came time to catch our shuttle to the airport, troubles. This review is because even though we were not customers, the staff went way above and beyond with helping us reschedule transportation, I can only imagine how awesome they would be if we had been paying customers. If there was a way to give them 10 stars I would. Oh how awesome our experience with Mount Royal was.
