Location

Halifax is the gateway to Nova Scotia and Atlantic Canada. More than a transportation hub, this city has a vibrant economy and a wide array of tourist sights and attractions. Most of these places are just minutes away from the city hotel. Guests are less than 6 km away from Halifax's historic downtown area and waterfront. Downtown highlights include historic properties, Pier 21, the Halifax citadel and the Public Gardens, one of the last remaining examples of Victorian garden architecture in Canada. Hotel guests will enjoy spending the day at Chocolate Lake (10-minute walk) or walking through one of the many shopping areas nearby such as Halifax Shopping Centre and Bayer's Lake Shopping. Families especially will enjoy being close to Frog's Pound and Peggy's Cove. There are also several corporate locations nearby including CCL Group, Pfizer and Sysco. The railway station is approximately a 10-minute walk from the business hotel and the metro transit station is around 2 minutes on foot.

Facility

142 non-smoking rooms are available to guests in a 9-storey main building and a 4-storey auxiliary building. The friendly staff at the reception desk are happy to answer any questions. Amenities include a baggage storage service, safe, currency exchange service, cash machine and drinks machine. Wireless internet access is provided in public areas. The tour desk offers assistance with booking excursions. The hotel has a range of facilities for guests with disabilities. The hotel has wheelchair-accessible facilities and a lift. A fireplace creates a cosy atmosphere. A number of shops, including a supermarket, are great for shopping or just browsing. A garden provides extra space for rest and relaxation in the open air. Additional facilities include a playroom. Guests arriving by car can park their vehicles in the garage (no extra charge) or in the car park. Further services and facilities include a 24-hour security service, room service and a laundry service. Bicycles can be kept in the bicycle storage area. Complimentary newspapers are available. The business centre is on hand for guests' business requirements and provides a fax machine.

Rooms

Air conditioning and individually adjustable heating ensure that rooms maintain comfortable temperatures. Guests can enjoy the lake view from a balcony or terrace. All rooms are carpeted and include a double bed and a sofa bed. A safe and a desk are also available. Additional features include a refrigerator, a mini fridge, a microwave and a tea/coffee station. There is also a washing machine and an ironing set. A direct dial telephone, a television with satellite/cable channels, a radio, a games console, an alarm clock and WiFi (no extra charge) provide all the essentials for a comfortable holiday. A hairdryer and bathrobes are available in the bathrooms, which are equipped with a shower and a bathtub. For extra comfort in the bathrooms, guests are offered cosmetic products. Guests can also book wheelchair-friendly rooms with wheelchair-accessible bathrooms. Family rooms are available for parents with children.

Sport

Excellent swimming awaits guests at the indoor pool. Comfortable sun loungers are available on the terrace. The hot tub in the pool area promises pure relaxation. There are many ways to relax or stay active at the hotel, including cycling/mountain biking, fishing, a gym, aerobics and a spa. Activity coordinators organise an entertainment programme for adults and children.

Meals

Various dining options are available, including a dining room and a bar. The non-smoking restaurant provides high chairs for children. A continental breakfast gives guests many delicious reasons to rise and shine. At lunch and dinner, guests can order à la carte or choose a set menu. Diet meals and children's meals can be prepared on request. The hotel also offers special catering options.

    ANTS in ROOM, manager would not address the issue and had to check-out early and find another hotel at the last minute, still had to pay full price for room with ants. No apologized for ants received. Do not stay at this hotel.

    I spent five nights at the Best Western Chocolate Lake and really enjoyed it. I didn't have a car and was able to walk to places nearby or take the city bus system all around the city. I found the front desk and housekeeping staff to be very pleasant and helpful. I thought the breakfast was well above average. I liked the restaurant very much and had dinner there several times during my stay. The weather in September was so nice that I was able to sit on the terrace with a view of the lake. My room was quiet and clean. I would definitely stay there again if I ever return to Halifax.     Terrible stay - do not recommend! Spend your money elsewhere!!

    Do not recommend! This hotel is going downhill fast. We had a terrible stay the first weekend of December. We were on the 4th floor over their event space which was having a party so loud the bass was shaking our room right above on the 4th floor. We tried to just ignore it thinking it would wrap up but it continued on late into the night. I went to the front desk after 10 to inquire and they advised the party was scheduled until 1am. They did not have another room to accommodate our family but offered a king bed room which is not sufficient for our family of 4 with kids 12 and 10. We were part of a large group and most were not happy with this stay. Lacking service from both the sales director Harshal and Guest Services Manager who didn’t even return my call. I’m still upset I paid for a night stay where we were not able to get any rest. We made the long drive home Sunday exhausted. Terrible experience, terrible service and will never stay there again.     An enjoyable stay at BW Plus Chocolate Lake Hotel

    The Best Western Plus Chocolate Lake Hotel was good and the staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel was very busy during our stay with a group of youthful hockey players who were liking the halls for practicing their game. It made for a noisy evening but they shut it down when we asked them to. The room was comfortable, clean and accommodated our family quite comfortably. The view was beautiful with all of the fall colours around the lake.
