    Very disappointing

    rating25 May 2026

I got to the Barrington and checked into my room. It smelled like mild urine and strong perfume. It was warm and damp. I went to pull the desk chair out, luckily before I touched it I noticed that there was dried up white stuff on the back of the chair as well as some dried on food. There was white stuff on the chair beside the bed and the table had stuff dried on it as well. I tried to call the front desk but the room phone did not work, I called from my phone they answered and gave me another room. The second room was a lot better in comparison, but the actual rooms are so run down compared to the photos they have online. The staff was helpful but I really don't think this hotel is worth paying almost $400 a night for. I will not book here again.

Great price for a clean, comfortable downtown hotel in a great location.

    rating19 May 2026

I booked The Barrington because the friends I was travelling with had already chosen the hotel. After reading some of the reviews, I was a bit concerned about their choice. I needn't have worried. The hotel is a bit outdated and maybe the rooms could use a refresh, however, the rooms were clean and comfortable. Yes the wood furniture had some scratches and was a bit on weathered side, but nothing was broken and everything was functional. The bed was extremely comfortable and cozy. There was a huge TV in the room as well as a fridge. The air conditioning rattled a bit, but worked extremely well. The location was excellent, an easy walk to all the major sites and the waterfront. The staff were friendly and helpful. I had a Business King room. The room was on the small side and had only one small window, but being downtown, I kept the curtains closed for privacy anyway, so the small window was not an issue for me. If I had been sharing my room, it might have felt a bit tight. My friends shared a King room with a pull-out couch. Their room was a HUGE corner room with a very large window. If you're the type of person who wants the best amenities and to feel pampered, then you should spend two or three times the price and stay at one of the more modern hotels. If you're looking for a clean room, comfortable place to sleep at night, a great location, and fancy amenities aren't important to you, The Barrington is well priced for Downtown Halifax. I would absolutely stay here again.

Easy walk to the Casino and waterfront

    rating23 Mar 2026

Good location downtown, walkable to Casino and waterfront, but parking was far away and a bit of a pain. Nice staff but not super patient when it was busy at checkin and checkout. Nicely renovated and decent value for the cost. The well-equipped room was nice and clean but we saw a mouse in both the lobby and the restaurant… not great.

1/10 Disgusting room and costumer service

    rating16 Feb 2026

DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL.We checked in late around 8:30 and went right to bed. Next morning i noticed there was pee behind the toilet and stains allover our blanket. We ask the front desk what they could do for the uncleanliness they replied the most they could do was a free breakfast voucher because we mentioned it the second day. They didn’t have anyone clean our room it was absolutely disgusting. Not to mention our room key cards stopped working 3 times in the span of 2 days. The pool was cold but advertised as heated in the website and saunas didn’t work. Book anywhere but this hotel.

Worst hotel experience I’ve ever had

    rating04 Nov 2025

Think twice before staying here. Charged for a mirror that was broken when we checked in! The worst customer service I have ever experienced. Originally assigned a room that had an odour so foul it nearly made my wife throw up. Upon requesting a new room due to the unbearable smell, the front desk agent was not apologetic for the smell and pushed back saying the hotel had no available rooms. After a long back and forth we were finally assigned a new room. The new room had a crack in the mirror in the bathroom. We thought that was fine as it was much less of an inconvenience compared to the smell of the original room. After checking out they sent an email charging $550 for the mirror that was broken when we got there!! I have sent mutiple contact attempts trying to follow up on the charge and have requested the general managers phone number, my contact attempts have been completely ignored. I will never be back and I would advise anyone to avoid staying here unless you want to pay for their hotel renovations on top of your night stay.
