    This was a very disappointing and unsettling hotel stay. Our girls’ hockey team (ages 12–13) was closely monitored on hotel cameras throughout the entire weekend and repeatedly reprimanded for minor, age‑appropriate behavior. The girls were made to feel watched, unwelcome, and constantly under scrutiny.What is most concerning is that while staff focused so heavily on policing children for minor issues, they failed to address a serious safety issue in the pool area. A middle‑aged man was allowed to remain in the hot tub with what appeared to be an alcoholic drink, holding his phone up in plain sight while our girls swam nearby. Despite staff presence and extensive camera monitoring, this was not addressed until I made a formal complaint. Police were called, and the situation ultimately led to an arrest.It is deeply troubling that staff priorities were so misplaced — relentlessly monitoring children while overlooking an inappropriate and unsafe situation involving an adult. This experience completely undermined our trust in the hotel’s judgment, staff training, and ability to provide a safe environment for families.The rooms were also very dated, which added to the overall disappointment.We would not stay here again and strongly caution families and youth sports teams against booking this hotel. Bruce Primeau, Owner at Best Western Plus Service Inn & Suites, responded to this review First and foremost, I deeply regret that you felt that you were singled out by our staff while in the hallways and the interactions you described are not representative of the level of service we provide. We had a number of teams that weekend from both Hockey and Soccer that required attention and supervision all weekend. On our side, we take these matters very seriously. Our Front Desk team had to address a number of issues during your stay, including loud and inappropriate behavior from some parents, children running in the hallways, and guests consuming alcohol in public areas, which led to a generally disruptive atmosphere.There are a few important points to address regarding both your response and how my staff were treated this weekend, as well as the myths surrounding teams staying in hotels. First and foremost, hotels are not playgrounds where parents and children can run freely. The 'team conduct agreement', signed by a team rep from your team lays out the expectations when it comes to staying at our hotel. Believe it or not, most parents and guests are NOT amenable to 'normal, age appropriate behaviour’ that you described. Running in hallways, having doors slamming, or children “Ding-Dong Ditching” is disruptive to a pleasant stay. Teams who have early morning games (8am at the Cavendish Centre or 7:30am at the Lethbridge Soccer Centre for example) or guests who have to travel early do not appreciate the raucous behaviors of select guests. My staff having to walk the halls or monitor hallways via our camera systems is again an important part of our hotel's operating procedures to ensure a safe and enjoyable stay is had by everyone. Your team was neither singled out or mistreated, as there were numerous teams there and it seems that yours was the only one with issues to our operating procedures that weekend. Our staff are not “baby-sitters” for parents who abuse our hospitality and choose to socialize/drink until midnight, as your group did all three nights, and then complain that we will not let them continue while their children have been left unsupervised. The guest from your room that was yelling at and berating one of my staff members who was trying to control another team’s behaviour, even after the young girl who was with her said “No, it was not her.”, is just one example of your entire team’s behaviour that weekend. Had there actually been an adult supervising these children, perhaps she would have had a first-hand account to dispute her concern.The issue of the other guest being inappropriate in the pool area was dealt with immediately upon notification. We take everyone’s safety and security seriously and to suggest we were ignoring the issue is uncharitable at best. We are constantly monitoring the pool, hallways, meeting areas, stairwells, and parking lots for any potential issues that require intervention. I myself was in the pool three times Friday evening and at no time was the behaviour observed. We do encourage teams to come, enjoy our hospitality, have fun in their tournament, play in the pool, watch the game on TV and get home safely. However, this requires cooperation from all guests in respecting shared spaces and hotel policies.We are equally satisfied that our hotel is not the right fit for you moving forward. I would say feel free to reach out directly should you wish to discuss this further, but the well-being of my staff and all of my guests is of greater importance to me than continuing this discussion.As the late, great Paul Harvey used to say “And now you know the rest of the story!”Regards,David EislerFront Office and Rooms Manager

    This hotel is phenomenal. The food, cleanliness of the room, breakfast, and the corporate night are outstanding. I highly recommend this hotel.     Just spent 3 nights at this hotel for my grandson's hockey team. The staff are all awesome. The breakfast is great with lots of choices!     We definitely enjoyed our stay at this Best Western Plus Red Deer Inn and Suites!! The 4th floor room was very comfortable and we woke up to a beautiful sunrise. The breakfast was excellent and the staff were all very helpful!We paid for this lovely room with Best Western points that we had collected!! It was an excellent choice!!!We would definitely love to come back to this amazing Best Western!!     Some commenters suggest the BW PLUS designation is given too freely, I sense irony in the label. My Plus stays have all been minimal and less than the standard BW. Lobby hot beverage dispenser out of order, same for one elevator. Contract swim lessons in pool 4-7 daily, interrupted several elements of my pool experience which is a primary issue in our travel schedule. Unwanted upgrade (actually a high priced closet with "two tv's)), was moved on request. New room seemed to have electrical issues, 2 strobing lamps and c-pap outlet just quit. Dining area small, cramped and cluttered, no windows but 3 tv's. Charged me an unlisted fee on checkout for credit card use. Last time stayed at this hotel (after the fact memory) the had a different add on fee. Will go with another chain if I visit Lethbridge again. As an elite member, our staff strive to provide an enhanced experience, which is why your room was upgraded to a Junior Executive Suite. This room is larger than standard rooms, updated, clean, and designed to provide a comfortable stay. While you described it as a “high-priced closet with two TVs,” we are proud of the room’s size, amenities, and overall comfort.Our newly renovated breakfast room does in fact include 3 TV's on one side and 2 TV's (all 55" LG's) on the other side. If you include the window in the exit door leading to the breakfast room patio, there are actually 4 windows in that space to allow as much sunlight as one would hope to see in the morning. Although built for averages, it does accommodate up to 65 patrons and offers a full hot complimentary buffet breakfast with a plethora of choices to get one's day off to a terrific start.I have passed along your concerns related to a possible LED light that was moving towards its end of life as well as the plug concern for your CPAP. Whether it is our hotel or any other that you may be staying at, if there are concerns that need to be addressed, one should simply contact the front desk and they will do their best to address those concerns while you are in house. As with any outlet or light, we do replace them as they are identified as being problematic through our PM program or when identified by a staff member or guest.I am not sure what would make you think that the pool area is private and that you wouldn't be disrupted in your pool experience. Our pool is a shared amenity, and while swim lessons and other activities may occasionally overlap, our goal is to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for all guests. Similarly, the temporarily out-of-order elevator and lobby coffee machine were addressed as soon as possible with third-party technicians to ensure guest safety and service continuity. Our other elevator was fully functional, safe and worked in getting guests to and from their rooms and we appreciated everyone's patience. Although unfortunate, these are the hazards of operating a publicly facing operation in that at times we are at the mercy of third party contractors to effect repairs. Finally, billing estimates are included in booking confirmation emails and on our website and identify all taxes and fees associated with your stay.All in all, it appears that even with all the updates that keep our hotel current and fresh for our guests, along with our award winning housekeeping team that keep our hotel safe and clean, one cannot see the forest through the trees. Overall, our hotel has undergone numerous updates to maintain a fresh and high-quality experience this past year, including new beds, TVs, window coverings, hallway carpets, and ongoing linen and maintenance programs. We are proud of our award-winning hotel team and the hard work our staff invests in exceeding guest expectations daily. I would hope you would want to come back and see us again soon but it appears your mind may already be made up. Perhaps your 'after the fact memory' may want to reevaluate your stay given the responses to your concerns and hoping this provides context for the measures we take to ensure a quality stay for every guest.Regards,
