  Major Renovations - strong paint fumes & pool closed

  We booked this 4-night stay at Quality Inn, Owen Sound through Expedia after also speaking with reservations at Choice Hotels.Neither Expedia nor Quality Inn warned us that:1. The pool and hot tub are currently CLOSED due to renovations.2. The continental breakfast dining room is CLOSED due to renovations, however, they are providing a brown bag breakfast in lieu of.3. The halls and rooms have strong paint fumes. We are sleeping with the heat off and window open in -14°C to try and minimize the strong paint fumes.We complained through Expedia feedback, who claimed they would pass along our concerns to Quality Inn, but have not heard back from either Expedia nor Quality Inn.We would have left the first night if we hadn’t booked non-refundable.The staff are wonderful, despite working/breathing in horribly strong paint fumes all day.

  We booked this hotel for a last minute event in Owen Sound. We chose this property for it's advertised amenities including pool, hot tub, restaurant, free hot breakfast etc. When booking, there was nothing shown on the Choice hotels mobile site to notify that EVERYTHING was closed in the hotel. When one family noticed an alert on a third party site the day before check-in, we contacted both the hotel as well as Choice requesting that they at least honour the hot breakfast. Instead of trying to work with us, we were told that we should just cancel all the reservations and book elsewhere! I had 3 other group bookings to make this past week and needless to say I have opted for another chain... one that actually provides customer service and advertised amenities!

  First, shout out to the staff. All those we met were a credit to the business. Large parts of the hotel have been refurbished, including our allocated room. The self-service breakfast was good. The restaurant is permanently closed, except for breakfast. Plenty of other choices in the area, although virtually none are close by. Value was reasonable/fair, and would have been excellent if we had been able to use the pool.

  The staff I met were fantastic. Stayed here from Aug 17-22. Cost of the stay was $1,650. This was for work and therefore due to all the hotels in the area being full stayed here. Checking in I asked if I could be on the bottom floor as they have a patio door. Was no problem the front desk clerk made it happen. Getting to the room, it was clean and everything in order. Went to leave the room through the side door and then grab my work truck to unload my stuff, the door had a huge sign on saying that this door was not to be used and an entrance or an exit. Which made the whole point of the patio door completely useless. Went back through the main lobby and asked about breakfast, starts at 6:30 -10. I always thought most places started at 6 am. One of the reasons I chose this place was due to the free breakfast. Breakfast was what you’d expect, bread toaster yogurt, scrambled eggs, hash brown potatoes, and pork patties, and then apples. My room was by the ice machine and pop machine. This ice machine was unbelievable loud. While it did not keep me up as I’m a pretty heavy sleeper this thing sounded like it was going to die any minute.Going for breakfast on the Monday the staff in the breakfast lounge opened a little early as they saw me standing there need my morning coffee. The sad part was they were using. Flashlight for light by the coffee station as they are doing renovations on the hotel but I hooked lights by the coffee. Half the lights inside the breakfast lounge were out or maybe not turned on. Either way not very welcoming to guests. The front door has been sliding on the door frame do so long that the aluminum is completely work down and again super loud. Ample parking and lots of room for trucks. In the room there was a sign on the window that said for longer stays they would come in and check your room every 3 days. Never once did they come in to check the beds towels garbage or anything. I even had to go to the front desk to ask for more coffee packages for the room. Now all these things combined are pretty darn small and really are not that big of a deal if you pay what it’s worth. But when you’re paying roughly $330.00 a night I expect better. I expect top notch service and I expect better options for breakfast and also expect the rooms to be checked daily. This is at best 3 start hotel and they a charging as if they are a 5 start hotel. If staying here and only lying $100.-$125 a night this is what I would expect and be ok with. However it wasn’t. Choice Hotels needs to do better and so does the Quality Inn.

  Was given a room that was “new” but room didn’t have any furniture except a bed and a small table to hold the TV. The washroom taps stuck and didnt turn for temperature. The connecting door didnt lock and we spent the night watching the door. The front desk clerk was never at the desk between 8pm and 6am. Nor picked up the phone. They disconnected or kept the phone off the hook on purpose. Seemed like a ghetto area and the first chance we got, we left. Not family friendly. We had to book last minute to break up our long journey but in hindsight, it would have been safer and more comfortable sleeping in our car with a 3yr old.
