Gorgeous location

Beautiful spot! Very clean cottages. Some construction noise with their expansion, but it was not bad most of the time. Very relaxing

Remote and relaxing
12 May 2026
Very nice. Great hiking, and abundant sea life. Units are well furnished and equipped with good views. Far from restaurants and grocery. Nice and quiet now but with all the construction and future plans may be too many people in future. Lower units have lots of stairs and may be an issue for some on mobility.

Great Views, Not a Resort
14 Mar 2026
My fiancé and I stayed at Sooke Oceanfront Resort for three nights. The views of the Pacific Ocean were stunning, and we appreciated being upgraded to a two-bedroom, two-bathroom cottage instead of the one-bedroom unit we originally booked. However, the stay had several inconveniences. We had purchased groceries before arriving, but the kitchen was very minimally stocked and only had salt and pepper for seasoning. We ended up having to go into town just to buy basic items like cooking oil.On our second evening, a power outage occurred due to high winds and rain. While the backup generator allowed us to use the TV, fridge, and microwave, the electric oven could not be used. Considering power outages are not uncommon in this area, it would make much more sense for the units to have gas stoves. We ultimately had to drive into town for food despite bringing groceries to cook. The fireplace in the living area also did not generate any noticeable heat, so it functioned more as a decorative feature than something useful during a cold, stormy evening. It’s also worth noting that the property feels more like a rental complex than a resort. There are no staff on site after 5 PM, and the only amenity available is a small fitness room that closes at 5 PM and requires a separate key. Guests are also required to take out their own garbage before leaving, which felt more like an Airbnb expectation than something you’d typically encounter at a resort.Overall, the ocean views are beautiful and the cottage itself was comfortable, but the lack of amenities and limited support made the experience less convenient than expected. I likely wouldn’t return until the property is more developed and better equipped for situations like power outages.

Hi 855simrans,Thank you for sharing your feedback about your stay at SookePoint Ocean Cottage Resort. We’re glad to hear you enjoyed the beautiful ocean views and the upgraded cottage during your visit. We’re sorry that some aspects of your stay were less convenient than expected. The recent storm caused a power outage in the area, and while our backup generator supports several in-suite appliances, we understand this can still be disruptive. We also appreciate your comments regarding kitchen supplies, amenities, and services, and will share them with our team as we continue working to improve the guest experience.Thank you again for your feedback, and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future.

Stunning Pacific views (but it's a live and loud construction site)
09 Jan 2026
When we booked here, the website did mention prominently that some construction was in progress. We thought, OK, but it can't be that bad. Wow we were wrong. The website vastly underplayed the reality. My wife's first reaction on arrival was, turn around and find someplace else! The building we stayed in was in the middle of a very active construction site with dozens of hard-hatted workers, hammering and drills, back loaders, lorries, and rock crushers. See photos.Okay - that's the bad news. If you think you can overcome that, then you'll be treated to incredible Pacific Ocean views and wildlife sightings from the comfort of your modern room or suite. We stayed in 15B, a 1 BR Pacific View suite facing west with views of both the Strait of Juan de Fuca and Sooke Bay. Once inside the suite with doors and windows closed, we could barely hear the construction noise and they do stop between 5 pm and 8 am. The floor to ceiling glass sliding doors and balcony provide incredible viewing. Unlike some other units we toured, 15B does NOT have window shades or curtains for these windows, and other units have direct views into the lounge and kitchen. The suite did not have dressing gowns / bathrobes for guests, so bring your own coverup! The suite was well appointed with a full modern kitchen and a huge fridge freezer combo. This is useful, because there aren't any grocery stores within 45 minutes drive. So make sure to pack in your own groceries (there's a Whole Foods in Victoria). From our chairs we could watch sea lions play on the rocks below. Whale sightings are frequent, although we weren't lucky this time. There's a great nature walk down through the rainforest to a sheltered cove; the track is muddy and slippery so hiking boots or wellies are recommended. Unfortunately on the day we hiked it, the crew back at the site was crushing big boulders into little ones and the noise ruined the vibe down in the cove. It's called a "resort" but that's only future-aspirational. Today it's nothing of the kind. There is no restaurant, no spa, no gym, no gift shop, no amenities at all outside of the rooms. Despite the obvious issues, we're glad we stayed on. It is truly a stunning, magnificent natural location. If you can live with the construction chaos when you're out of the cabin, the value for money here is excellent. And now you're properly forewarned.

Thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed and thoughtful review. We truly appreciate your honesty and are glad you chose to stay with us despite the challenges you encountered. You are absolutely right that construction is currently underway, and while we do our best to communicate this clearly prior to arrival, we understand that the scale and activity can still come as a surprise. We sincerely apologize for the disruption this caused and for the impact it had on your first impression and on parts of your stay, particularly during outdoor experiences. We are pleased to hear that once inside your suite, you were able to enjoy the comfort, quiet, and the breathtaking west-facing views of the Pacific Ocean, Strait of Juan de Fuca, and Sooke Bay. It is wonderful to know you were able to experience the wildlife and natural beauty that make this location so special.Thank you as well for highlighting helpful details for future guests, including grocery planning, hiking conditions, and suite features. Your feedback regarding window coverings and in-suite amenities has been shared with our team for review as we continue to improve the guest experience. As you noted, SookePoint is still in an active development phase, and many resort amenities are planned for the future. Our goal is to ultimately create a fully realized oceanfront retreat while preserving the extraordinary natural surroundings that guests like yourself clearly value. We truly appreciate your understanding, your balanced perspective, and your kind words about the location and value. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future once construction is complete, so you can experience SookePoint as it was always intended.

Beautiful accommodation for hikers!
09 Oct 2025
The coastline around Sook is very scenic and natural. It’s a great place for a hiking and solitary living, however the “resort” offers nothing in the way of resort amenities. There are no common areas, no restaurant, bar or water features like pools or hot tubs and is located very remotely involving a long drive for self catering supplies. It appears to be a work in progress with about half the property under construction, although the suites (which are privately owned) are lovely. The check-in office area is a construction portable. The trails are somewhat challenging but the views and beaches along the way are gorgeous!
