  Good value for downtown Toronto

  The building is a former hotel and now a student residence for U of T, so my expectations were lower. Room is basic and no frills - no desk lamp, no clock, no TV, only one desk chair, no hairdryer, no coffee maker. It is ideal if you just need a place to sleep. The location downtown is excellent. The breakfast was surprisingly great - eggs, bacon, pancakes, juice, coffee, cereal, fresh fruit, etc. As long as your expectations are not high, this hotel is great value compared to regular hotels downtown Toronto with a great breakfast included.

  Disappointing. We expected the Spartan rooms, however, we did not expect that:1. The beds were made but the bathroom and showercurtain werent clean. 2. There was no housekeeping at all. We had to get our own towels, but upon asking when the used towels were to be picked up, the lady at the reception suggested we'd put them in the dryers ourselfes in the downstairs laundramat. 3. Wordt of all: and that there was no ventilation in the room. We stayed 5 days. After the 2nd day the floor and walls were already damp because of the steam in the shower. Towels wouldnt dry, the room turned smelly. We got another room on another floor halfway our stay, with the same downsides however. We too had a fire alarm at 6 am, it went on for minutes even after the staff said on speaker that everything was alright. Pluspoints: The beds were ok, the breakfast was ok, the room was spacey.

  This is by far the worst hotel I have stayed at. It was very unclean as there was trash on the floor, stains on the bed, hair strands, and a general bad smell. There was one outlet, no TV, no lamp, they don't have cleaners come, so enjoy your one unclean towel. When the fire alarms went off in the middle of the night, a worker laughed and said This happens all the time. (The reviews also confirm this.) I have no words for how bad this experience was, and I have stayed at nicer motels.. The only positive thing was the good location.

  Travelling on a budget during the University break? Then the Chestnut Residence is great value for money and convenience to downtown Toronto. The rooms are basic, but what does one expect given that the Residence is a student hostel during the academic year. However, the service offered is welcoming and helpful at all times. The breakfast is highly recommended with a choice that is large and well prepared and more than is on offer at other hotels.

  excellent, clean, comfortable centrally located budget choice

  This is a student dormitory which rents rooms to travelers in the summer. It is an excellent budget-travel choice. There is a security guard 24/7, so if you arrive late at night you will not be standing outside the door waiting for someone to let you in. You must use your key card to get to your floor of the building. Room was clean and comfortable, but the lighting was rather dim. There is AC. This is a high-rise building, so windows are not openable. No fridge or microwave in the room, but you can use the shared one in the common room on your floor. Breakfast in the cafeteria is included, and it is plentiful and offers a variety of choices: Eggs cooked in different styles, pork sausage, halal chicken sausage, baked beans, oatmeal or rice porridge on alternating mornings, fried potatoes, 3 yogurt flavors, cantaloupe and honeydew, toast, fruit juices. You can also buy dinner, which is basic cafeteria food, for a reasonable price. The location is very good, with many places to eat nearby. We give it our highest recommendation.
