Disappointed by Poor Lighting, Confusing Entrance, and a Ridiculous Breakfast Policy

    rating06 Aug 2025

We recently stayed at the Residence Inn in Vaughan, Toronto, and unfortunately, this location fell short of the standards we've come to expect from the Residence Inn brand. The Good:The hotel is in a convenient area, centrally located off the freeway. There’s a large self-park lot, which is a plus. Check-in was pleasant—the gentleman at the front desk in the evening was friendly and professional. The Bad:Finding the entrance was unnecessarily difficult. The hotel lacks a traditional covered entryway, and the main driveway is poorly lit, especially at night. Parts of the parking lot were also quite dark, making the property feel unwelcoming on arrival. Without GPS, I would have missed the driveway entirely. The Dealbreaker:One of the main reasons we stay at Residence Inns is for the in-room kitchens and complimentary breakfast. At every other Residence Inn we’ve stayed at, we've been able to take breakfast back to our room to enjoy peacefully. That was not the case here.We were stopped by a staff member and told that hotel policy prohibits taking food out of the breakfast area. We were pointed to some hastily printed paper signs taped around the lobby. Another guest nearby overheard and commented, “Yeah, it’s only this hotel that has that stupid policy. I won’t be staying here again.” I couldn’t agree more. What if you have kids still asleep? Or someone in your party with mobility issues? Why provide paper plates at all if food can’t leave the breakfast room?Final Thoughts:This policy felt unnecessarily strict and out of step with the Residence Inn brand. Combined with the confusing layout and poor lighting, it made our stay much less enjoyable. We won’t be returning to this location, and I’d caution other travelers who value flexibility and comfort to look elsewhere. Lily Bai, General Manager at Residence Inn by Marriott Toronto Vaughan, responded to this review We appreciate your feedback and take it into consideration. Exceptions can be made for breakfast taken to the guest room, simply inquire with front desk. I hope you would consider staying with us in the future.

Typical Suite based hotel with free breakfast.

    rating05 Jul 2025

I enjoy longer stays at Residence Inns. Residence Inns are larger suites with studio, 1 or 2 bedroom suites with a kitchenette. A Kitchenette is counters, sink, cooktop and dishwasher. Great for families and cooking in. They have a free breakfast (continental) and some have snacks in evenings but this location does not do that during my stay. This Residence Inn is the older style decor but looks fine. Rooms in good shape bed was fine.Ikea is a 1 block walk away.Couple of points to be aware of: Its a pretty large hotel but the breakfast lounge is too small for the number of units they have. As such breakfast can get very busy. Go early or go back to you room with your meal. Also there is Assembly Park about 1 block away. They had a Latin festive during my stay and I found the music and noise from the park a bit of a problem.Otherwise decent stay and would return here for the right price.

I come to this hotel every time I go to Toronto or Vaughan. The staff here are so amazing. They treat you like family when you walk through the door. Rooms are so clean and beds are so comfy. Very quiet place if you wanna sleep in. You will not be disappointed.

    Wonderful weekend!

    rating16 Nov 2024

Our experience on the weekend of November 15-17 th at this hotel was wonderful. Particularly Scott at reception /front desk went above and beyond to accommodate our group and ensure our stay was memorable. We will return the next time we are in Toronto.

Great if you are looking for a room with a kitchen

    rating20 Oct 2024

I like that the residence inn was near Wonderland. The hotel was easy to get to, clean and the rooms looked just like the advertised pictures. I appreciated that they included cutlery in the cupboards of the studio room with a full kitchen. The food at breakfast was good as well. My only complaint is the pool was a bit small and they should enlarge the gym.
