We chose this hotel based on the great reviews and the rate that included breakfast. While the location is handy for highway access, we did find it inconvenient for a 4 night stay as there was no restaurants or grocery stores nearby which we didn’t realize until we punched it in the gps. The reason for my low ratings are as follows:Upon arrival we were told we would have to pay upfront or put the whole stay on our credit card as a hold plus a deposit. I’ve stayed and worked in hotels for many many years and this is the first time I have dealt with this. A heads up would have been good for this request. You generally get a deposit on hold and then at checkout you pay for the stay with the payment method of your choice. This avoids extended holds on amount over and above the room cost. We were given our room key and went up, upon opening the door I was literally gagged by the smell of extreme sweat and slapped in the face with a wall of humidity, it was like the room had just been full of 50 sweating people moments prior to our entry. It was disgusting. I went back down and told the lady and she was happy to change our room. Went back up and down the hall a bit and while the room was surface level clean, the smell was still bad and the pull out sofa was folded in with dirty sheets all balled up in the middle. Back down I went (at 9pm) and was given clean sheets to change the bedding. The phone was full of years of build up and grease, dust all over and no pillow for my son. There was no screen on the window so to get fresh air was a trade off for a bunch of moths flying in. We were also very disappointed that the bedroom door was full glass panel and no lock(not that it mattered with the glass anyway) when people book a suite, they do it for privacy. The shower curtain was like tissue paper, water just soaked everywhere and there were a bunch of things carved into the walls like you would find at a gas station washroom on the side of the highway. The fridge door dragged along the carpet and was hard to open and the room just entirely needed a facelift. We felt dirty every time we were in the room. We were tired after a long day of travel and just sucked it up. We had so much luggage with us that I decided to clean what I could and deal with it for our stay. Unfortunately my son ended up not being able to sleep on the pullout couch because of the mattress condition. I’ve never heard of a six year complain about back pain, have you? He ended up sleeping in our bed with us so the $235/ night room was not worth the price for that alone let alone all of the issues. The pool was quite cold and dirty. My son didn’t want to play in it because of the visible dirt. Each night we went there were no towels which was also frustrating. And this is just a suggestion- please put a sign up saying “no screaming” the screaming kids were so incredibly loud that we had to leave two nights after just a few short minutes because the echo amplified it so bad that it was unbearable. The parents were too busy drinking in the hot tub to care. Upon checkout the lady said there was no notes of anything that happened and all she was authorized to give was 10% back. She was having great difficulty figuring the computer system out so I just accepted the small refund and left because it was taking so long and we had appointments. I would have expected to get at least 50% back. I suggest the hotel get those 40 year old carpets out, fix the doors so that there isn’t major gaps that let all the noise and light into the room so it’s hard to sleep, and have the head housekeeper do better room checks. The breakfast was good, although a real maple syrup would be ideal instead of straight glucose syrup and a better fruit selection. The yogurts were warm so I think the fridge may need replacing. I also suggest more seating- when we were getting up to leave our table we were swarmed by men trying to make sure they’d get the seats which in turn blocked us in and we couldn’t leave. It was very uncomfortable. The staff was nice enough and easy to deal with but it was strange to have to call the front desk to check out.

The Discomfort Inn - Failed to care about our concerns. Attempted

    rating21 Dec 2024

We rented 2 rooms for my sisters to enjoy some family time together. We were all sadly disappointed at the condition of this hotel and the price we were charged. We were unable to change hotels once we realized how terrible this one was as it was the weekend of Taylor Swift. My largest concern however was the mold that was on surfaces around the hotel, especially around the windows. This is a health concern for me and my family as well as any other people staying in this hotel. Both rooms had a foul odour and were dirty. One room still had clothing from a prior guest under the bed. The sheets and duvet covers were stained. The phone in room 313 did not work. Chairs in the room were not affixed to the legs. We tried to use the amenities but the pool and gym were also filthy. All 3 bathrooms in the common areas had pools of water and urine around the toilets. The washroom with less liquid on the floors had such a terrible odour we couldn’t use it. The water on the floor around the pool and in the bathrooms was a safety concern. The breakfast was completely inadequate and was not replenished when items ran low. Twice our party witnessed one of the waffle irons fall off the counter almost injuring people. Service was really lacking, staff seemed uninterested in assisting guests. When we asked for a couple of extra towels and pillows we were met with sighs and questioned. We were not using housekeeping in one of the rooms and felt we needed the towels to cover the days we were staying. Additional pillows were requested as the ones on the bed were lumpy-as were the additional ones. When asked about replenishing the breakfast items it was again met with dread. We were forced to stay in your hotel with deplorable conditions. How is it possible that your chain can rent these rooms to people. These issues have been brought to your attention in other reviews yet you fail to do anything about it.

    Great Friendly Hotel

The rooms are a little outdated, but the hotel is very clean. The included breakfast is delicious! The staff are very pleasant, friendly, and are happy to see you. I stayed here for the first 4 weeks of my course and have been recommending this hotel to lots of others that travel.

We stayed here during the Abbotsford Airshow. It was supposed to be a Suite but was so cramped one of 3 of us slept on the floor. The provided breakfast was very basic. A muffin and juice. There was no access to the pool or hottub either. A very dispappointing stay. Even more so, when it cost $500 for 2 nights stay.

The front staff were friendly, the room was clean and quiet, and the take away breakfast was well thought out. The location is good for commuting, and our vehicle was secure in the parking lot. We look forward to using the pool next time.
