Location

The city of Nanaimo is in the centre of Vancouver Island, and is the gateway to the island. 1.5 hours from other major Vancouver Island cities, this hotel is centrally located in the centre of Nanaimo, just 2 minutes away from the BC Ferry terminal and the popular central area. It is 35 km west of Vancouver via a 1 hour and 35-minute BC ferry ride. This popular hotel is close to everything: excellent dining, malls, shopping venues, bars, the seaside walkway, links to the public transport network and scenic harbour parks are all within easy reach. The nearest Rail Canada railway station is 2 km from the hotel and Westwood Lake is 10 km away.

Facility

5 suites, 36 single rooms and 35 double rooms are located on 3 storeys and can be reached by lift. Multilingual staff (English, German, French) at the reception desk in the lobby are ready to assist you with check-in and check-out. Amenities include a safe, a currency exchange service and a drinks machine. Wireless internet access in public areas allows guests to stay connected. There are a number of shops as well. Parking facilities available to guests include a garage (for a fee) and a car park. Other services include room service, an alarm call service, a laundry service and a coin-operated laundry. Complimentary newspapers are available. A fax machine is on hand for guests' business and communication needs.

Rooms

Rooms are equipped with air conditioning and central heating. Most rooms include a balcony or terrace. All rooms are carpeted and include a double bed, a queen-size bed or a king-size bed. Extra beds can be requested. A safe and a desk are also available. Guests will also find a tea/coffee station included among the standard features. An ironing set is provided for guests' convenience. A direct dial telephone, a television with satellite/cable channels, a radio, an alarm clock and WiFi (no extra charge) are provided as well. The daily newspaper is laid out for guests in the the rooms. Bathrooms are equipped with a shower and a bathtub, as well as a hairdryer. As a special feature, bathrooms are also stocked with cosmetic products and a selection of towels. Wheelchair-friendly rooms can be booked. The hotel has family rooms and 76 non-smoking rooms.

The sports and entertainment facilities at the hotel ensure that guests have plenty of activities to choose from during their stay. A sun terrace is a great place to while away the hours. There are many ways to relax or stay active at the hotel, including tennis, a gym, a spa and a sauna.

    I think the hotel has been updated since last year’s reviews. We found no problems

    We travel a lot and stay in various types of accommodations. I was pleasantly surprised by this Travelodge. I had asked for a quieter room and we got just that. Room 377 on the top floor. Our room was very clean, comfortable and had everything we needed for a one night stay. And best of all, very quiet. Our large balcony overlooked an apartment building. No traffic noise here. Somethings we rarely see anymore were a bathroom fan that really works, a rubber mat for the tub and a hook on the back of the bathroom door. The supplied coffee packet for our morning coffee was some of the best we’ve had. We were told at check in what was available for the complimentary breakfast. There’s no toaster so bread was not supplied. But there were 4 different flavours of muffins, yogurt, hard boiled eggs, apples and oranges, instant oatmeal packets and juice, coffee and tea. I was happy with that. And I don’t choose a hotel based on the free breakfast. The friendly staff were constantly replenishing the items. The only tip is that the elevator only goes to the third floor. It doesn’t stop at the second floor. Very pleased with our stay and I’d stay here again.

    The location is great - easy walking distance to many attractions - but it is very basic and dated (it shows its age). Staff was friendly and helpful, but the "continental breakfast" was minimalistic at best: it oddly had packets of peanut butter and jam - but nothing to use them on (sweet muffins - but no bread or english muffinns).

    Solid 3 Arrived late - only one employee having to let each person in while trying to check 3 of us in - not her fault but took quite some time You can tell they have done some updates and just haven’t gotten to others. Breakfast was pretty bare bones. For us for a quick over night after a late ferry it was just fine - don’t know that I would book to stay here for an extended time

    This hotel is run down and definitely needs a refresh. The king size bed was good and everything was clean but the door knob on washroom was hanging loose. We fixed it best we could. Did the cleaners not report this? Hallways are tired. Breakfast included with room and was suitable. Hotel is situated about a 20 minute walk to the downtown core where restaurants were. I guess you get what you pay for but still with taxes the room came to $156. Lots of vehicles in parking lot so people are staying. They really need to renovate.
