Aava Hotel Whistler – Original issue resolved—Management stepped in and issued a full refund

    rating14 Aug 2026

UPDATE (August 2026): I am updating my original review because the management team at Aava Hotel reached out to me regarding this incident. They took my feedback seriously, apologized for how the situation was handled, and issued a full refund for the unused night. While the initial front desk interaction was stressful, I deeply appreciate that leadership stepped in to show the exact empathy and customer service I had hoped for.Original Review:I rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience at Aava Hotel was so disappointing that I feel obligated to share it. I booked a two-night stay from August 2 to August 4, expecting a relaxing getaway. Instead, it turned into one of the most stressful hotel experiences I've ever had.On August 2, while I was already on my way to Whistler, I received an emergency call from my home security company reporting that my motion sensors had been triggered and there was a possible break-in at my home. Since I was already committed to the trip, I tried to put it out of my mind and hoped it was a false alarm. The following day, August 3, I received another emergency call about the same issue. At that point, I could no longer ignore the possibility that my home had been burglarized. I knew I had to return home immediately. I approached the front desk in the morning, explained the situation in detail, and asked if the hotel could show some compassion by refunding or waiving the second night's stay since I would not be able to use the room due to an emergency completely beyond my control. The front desk staff told me that only the manager could approve such a request, but they had no idea when the manager would arrive. Even more surprising, they told me there was apparently no way to contact the manager while they were away. I found it astonishing that a hotel could operate with no manager available and no means of reaching one for urgent guest issues. The front desk employee showed no empathy throughout the interaction. At no point did I feel that she genuinely understood the seriousness of my situation. There was no effort to explore alternatives, no attempt to escalate the matter, and not even the basic courtesy of expressing concern for what I was going through. The conversation felt cold, dismissive, and transactional.Hotels are in the hospitality business. Hospitality isn't measured by how you treat guests when everything is going well—it's measured by how you respond when someone genuinely needs help. While the initial handling of my emergency at the front desk was deeply frustrating and lacked basic compassion, the subsequent response from management completely changed my lasting impression. By reaching out and issuing the refund, they demonstrated that they do value their guests and take customer service seriously. I am grateful to the management team for doing the right thing and resolving this fairly.

    Decent value, average hotel.

    rating04 Aug 2026

Our family of 4 stayed here in July 2026. The pros:Exterior of hotel is very nice and tidyFront desk staff polite and helpfulLocation is excellent, very walkablePrice was reasonable for hotelBeds very comfortableParking was goodThe consHotel common areas weren’t all that clean. Something as simple as the floor mat in the elevator had gross stains on it and was chewed up. Rooms weren’t all that clean, random hairs stuck to door frames that kind of thing. As other reviews have said if there is someone above you walking around, you hear it. I probably wouldn’t stay here again unless the rooms were updated. We stayed at the sister hotel (Summit Lodge) last year and it was far better than this hotel for not much more money. Marit Behrendt, Guest Services / Front Office at Aava Whistler Hotel, responded to this review Thank you for your feedback. We are glad you enjoyed our location, comfortable beds, parking, and the service from our front desk team. We appreciate your comments regarding cleanliness, noise, and the condition of the rooms, and we'll share them with our team as we continue to make improvements. We hope you'll consider staying with us again in the future. Kind regards, Marit - Front Office Manager

Comfortable, quiet, well located and priced

    rating23 Jun 2026

A quality hotel at a reasonable price. Well located a short walk from Village centre but far enough away to avoid late night noisy revelers passing the hotels which front the main village streets. Very attentive front desk staff - special call out to the young Australian woman who helped with a few minor issues and gave good advice on eateries etc. Rooms clean and comfortable. While overall quiet, there were the occasional guests who inconsiderately talked loudly in corridor late at night as they returned to their rooms and allowed their doors to bang - nothing the hotel can do much about except installing quiet close doors. Marit Behrendt, Guest Services / Front Office at Aava Whistler Hotel, responded to this review Thank you for your wonderful review! We’re delighted to hear you enjoyed our convenient location, comfortable rooms, and the friendly service from our front desk team. We also appreciate your feedback regarding hallway noise and will keep it in mind as we continue to look for ways to improve our guests' experience. We hope to welcome you back to Whistler again soon! Kind regards, Marit - Front Office Manager

    Red flags

    rating28 Apr 2026

Would not recommend due to a lack of diligence of housekeeping function, maintenance of room, and personal safety.Checked in for a three day conference company booked stay, went up to the room and there was a pair of soiled underpants laying on the floor. I went down to reception and discreetly let them know and requested a room change as I was concerned what else they missed in the room turnaround. Their response was total indifference “ housekeeping must have missed them” Second bedroom smells damp, thebathroom extractor was on when I initially entered room, housekeeping switch it back and leave it on when they service the room. It is also disconcerting that at checkin the receptionists loudly proclaim your room number to the hotel lobby especially as there is no restriction on floor/room access. Marit Behrendt, Guest Services / Front Office at Aava Whistler Hotel, responded to this review Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We sincerely apologize for the condition of your room upon arrival and for the way your concerns were handled—this is not the level of care we strive to provide. Your comments regarding housekeeping standards, room maintenance, and front desk communication have been shared with our team for immediate review and follow-up. We regret the impact this had on your stay and appreciate your feedback. Kind regards, Marit - Front Office Manager
