Nice hotel choice in Yellowknife, NWT

I enjoyed my 4-night stay at the Explorer Hotel in Yellowknife. The room was clean and well-appointed and the bedding comfortable. Friendly, efficient staff. Restaurant is solid. I appreciated walkable proximity to downtown.

    Exceeded expectations

    rating17 Mar 2026

I was not expecting to be this impressed when I booked a stay in a small town, but this hotel completely exceeded my expectations in every way. From the moment I arrived, the staff made me feel genuinely welcome—friendly, attentive, and eager to help with anything I needed. The room was spotless, beautifully decorated, and surprisingly modern while still keeping a cozy, local charm. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and I had one of the best nights of sleep I’ve had in a long time. Little touches like fresh coffee, quality toiletries, and thoughtful amenities really made a difference.I would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone passing through. A true gem—five stars all the way!

    Explorer Hotel, Yellowknife NT

This is a very large hotel, so one cannot expect the level of personal attention one might get at a smaller place. However, it seemed that everyone at the hotel from the front desk to housekeeping to the restaurant and lounge staffs could not possibly have done more to make us feel welcome and to enjoy our stay!We had a Signature Suite, which was huge, so we can't comment about the size of other rooms. However our room was perfectly clean on our arrival and had housekeeping service every day. The bathroom was fully private (how can anyone stay at a place with glass-walled toilets?), the bed supremely comfortable, and closet and drawer space quite ample.Folks at the front desk were not only polite but seemingly eager to help with requests. The restaurant (Trader's Grill) has excellent food at reasonable prices and very attentive and efficient service. Ditto for the Trapline Lounge, a great place to collapse with a warming drink and bite after a day in the frigid sub-Arctic.The hotel provided free of charge a shuttle to and from the Airport. Two negatives only: first, during our stay, one of the two not-very-large guest elevators was out of service. We were encouraged to have staff bring up and down our luggage in their freight elevator so as to leave room for the maximum six guests in the guest elevator car. Second, probably due to the huge size of the hotel, we had to fight shower wars with other guests, with blasts of very cold and scalding water coming at unexpected times. Neither of these negatives would deter us in the slightest from returning to this fine hotel. If you're going to Yellowknife you are not going to have a lot of options for places to stay, but you will do well to choose the Explorer.

    Nice hotel

    rating03 Mar 2026

The hotel was very nice however the restaurant and the lounge were not open at the posted hours on the sign outside the doors. When I asked about it, I was simply told these are the hours. They should update the postings to reflect the current times. The food did end up to be really good. Our room was very nice. We had to use the attendants to bring our luggage up and down because luggage is not allowed in the elevators which was a bit inconvenient when in a rush to get the shuttle in the morning.
