  Hotel Diego de Almagro is well-located in San Pedro de Atacama – perfect for exploring the town. Staff is helpful and enjoyed a decent meal at their reasonably priced restaurant. The rooms were comfortable, but basic. Overall, it’s a good choice for a stay in this popular destination

  Desert-like atmosphere from the moment you step inside the hotel premises

  From the moment I arrived at the Diego de Almagro Hotel, the atmosphere felt unmistakably desert-like. The colors, the vibe, the arcades, and the traditional roof all suggested the spirit of the Atacama. The property is spacious, and with all rooms at ground level, it avoids that “industrial hotel” impression entirely. There is a large swimming pool at the center, surrounded by trees typical of northern Chile. My room faced the pool and was very well equipped, even featuring a smart TV. Breakfast offered plenty of variety, including cooked options like empanadas, and it was served in a rustic-style restaurant. The reception team and all other personnel throughout the hotel were very kind, always greeting everyone. The location of the hotel is also excellent—right in the center of San Pedro de Atacama, ideal for exploring the town on foot.

  Small rustic rural hotel well situated not far from centre of a very small town. Rooms are basic, small in size, just managing a double bed, the bathroom was cramped and we had to sit sideways on the loo to get our legs in. Shower only, no bath. No safe, bottled water or tea provided in the room. Wifi only available in reception area.Reception is small but was manned 24/7 and they spoke English (some better than others) - but you are out in the sticks here!Bar has a happy hour but service was rather slow, so don't leave it until 5 minutes before the end!Breakfast on both days was a takeaway box as we left early. This was perfectly adequate and prior to leaving tea and coffee was available in the restaurant area.Open plan area for reception, bar, restaurant and this causes issues with noise when people get up early to go on trips, the sound carries right down the corridors despite the fact they are most probably trying not to be noisy.The pool area was nice with ample sunbeds.We did have noise issues late at night (after 11.30pm), being on the ground floor a group of people started dragging chairs around outside our window and were going to settle down for a party by the pool, until my husband opened the window and shouted at them to be quiet. They then went to the restaurant area, so the noise continued, as it echoed down the corridors. In the morning when our tour leader complained for us, reception denied anything happened, trying to blame local bars.....despite them being by the pool outside our window!

  Dangerous, dirty and unfair charges

  The location was good, but that's all the good they have.They charged me for an "unusable towel" because soposedly it was too dirty but they didn't even try to clean it and then I personally washed it with hand soap and it came out perfectly usable.Also the rooms smelled humid and the safety was poor, the main doors stayed open all night (in a city with a lot of homless) and many of the rooms locks didn't work.
