    Absolute Nightmare – The Worst Family Hotel Experience of My Life – Avoid at All Cost

    I booked two rooms (one for my family and one for my 70-year-old father) for three nights through the official IHG app. I later extended the stay by one additional night for my family as our flight changed to early next morning. What followed was one of the most chaotic, stressful, and hostile hotel experiences I have ever encountered.Three days before the extended stay, I contacted the hotel about my second reservation for both rooms to ensure we could remain in the same rooms. They informed me they could only locate one room from my second reservation, so they only extended my room but not my dad's room. The next day, I provided proof of payment, and they assured me they would resolve it after checking with their back office. I followed up multiple times—each time being told a supervisor would contact me. No one ever did.Eventually, I was told via wechat that they would check with their IHG office the following morning. I understand this is "LIDO" Crown Plaza, not direct Crown Plaza. But they operates like two completely disconnected entities—the hotel and IHG—with no communication between them. By the next afternoon, they claimed the issue was “resolved”: IHG would refund one room's cost, and I would need to repay the hotel directly at reception. This was already unnecessarily complicated, but I saw them already refunded me the one room cost on my wechat so I agreed just to move things forward.When I returned to the hotel, I discovered my room key had been deactivated. At the front desk, a new shift of staff demanded that we pay again for both rooms but apparently one had already been fully prepaid. Their rationale from the supposed supervisor at the reception is: “you paid IHG, not us”— refusing to honor the original payment. This is completely unreasonable for a hotel operating under the Crowne Plaza/IHG brand. Guests should never be caught between internal system issues. They insisted that we pay first, stating that if they confirmed it was their mistake the next morning, they would issue a refund at a later stage, with no clear timeline. Given how the situation had been handled, we were not comfortable proceeding with any additional payment.Their attitude throughout was aggressive and accusatory, treating us as if we were attempting to avoid payment—when in reality, this situation was entirely caused by their own internal errors.After a prolonged and stressful argument, I insisted to only pay for the room that has been refunded to me. They finally allowed us back into our room while they “clarified” the situation internally. However, the ordeal did not end there. They repeatedly called our room close to midnight, pressuring us for additional payment while my child was asleep.The next morning, as we were leaving at 8am to catch our flight, they attempted to prevent us from checking out—refusing to let us leave unless we either paid again or waited for their “head office” to open. We were exhausted, under time pressure, and completely disrespected.After the trip, my elderly father revealed to us that he was also been denied access to his room earlier in that evening when he returned earlier due to back pain. He was forced to walk back and forth to the reception multiple times before finally being allowed in.On top of all this, the hotel refused to turn on the central air conditioning during our stay, claiming the weather was not warm enough—even though temperatures in Beijing were above 20°C. Staff themselves admitted they had received multiple complaints from other guests but had no authorization to switch it on. As a supposedly high-end hotel under the IHG brand, this is completely unacceptable. We could barely sleep due to the discomfort. Had it not been for our tightly planned schedule with other family members, we would have moved to another hotel after the first night. In hindsight, we regret not doing so, as it would have avoided the ordeal that followed.This hotel demonstrated zero professionalism, no coordination, and no empathy—especially toward families traveling with elderly parents and children. The level of hostility and incompetence is shocking.IHG should seriously review its partnership with this property. As a result of this experience, we have lost confidence in the IHG brand and will seek alternative hotel groups going forward.     AN AMAZING HOTEL

    No doubt, one of the amazing hotels in Beijing with lots of amenities !Very specious and ultra clean rooms, extra ordinary breakfast with lavish selection of food verities. As we stepped into this hotel, we felt the glamour of it and the front office staff was very kind enough to check us in without any hazel. Dining options within the property are fairly good and there's a small super market just about 400m away from the hotel. Though this is not located in the heart of the city, the area is full of local restaurants (authentic Chinese food) The only issue we had there was the language barrier. Nobody speaks English and it was a real nightmare to get even a little information to walk around. However thanks to the google translator, we survived....
