Fabulous Hilton Daxing - and some tips for Beijing

    rating28 Mar 2025

This hotel is really rather splendid. The rooms are clean and spacious, and modern, and have automatic flushing loos! I enjoyed following the robots around as they delivered things to the various rooms. They talk as they move around. The breakfast and supper were delicious. The staff are fantastic - friendly, willing, and prompt in responding to requests. One of the concierges helped me enable my e-sim. I'm not quite sure where I should provide some comments about travelling around Beijing. It can be quite a culture challenge if, like me, it is your first visit to Beijing, and you do not speak the language. The usual approach for any visitor to a foreign country is to ask staff at your hotel, or to ask passersby, or to consult something like Google Maps. The first two of these are possible, but, in view of the lack of any widespread use of English by the Chinese, the answers provided might not be readily understood by the questioner. This situation is not helped by the fact that the English translations of various Chinese place names can have different spellings, which makes it hard to identify where exactly any particular place is located. In addition, the Beijing subway is vast, and can take a long time to travel around. The interchanges are often lengthy. Yet further, the subway stations themselves are massive, with sometimes as many as six exits. These can be 10 or 15 minutes walk away from each other. So there is a risk that you could emerge into the open air without really knowing where you are. For info, I attach a photo of the Beijing subway map. You should get to know this well, and watch out for places seeming, or being spelled, in a similar manner. You don't want to arrive (as I did once) at completely the wrong destination. As for online maps, the great Chinese firewall makes it tricky to consult and use the internet with any great facility. I found that it took a long time to plan any travel around the city. For instance, I wanted to visit the Marco Polo bridge, which in 1937 was the scene of a skirmish, or battle, between the Japanese and the Chinese in 1937. This was an important event, and hence the site is an interesting historical landmark. The clash prompted ill feeling on both sides, and resulted in escalation, which set the tone for the Second World War and indeed decades after, continuing in many ways until today. But could I work out how to get to this site? In a word, no. I simply could not establish the route, or how long it would take, or which suburban railway or metro line I should use Caught next. So I gave up. I could have taken a taxi but A. didn't want to travel in a car and B. in any event the tech (or my lack of skills - not sure which) would not allow me to download the ride hailing app Didi. I suspect that it would be possible to get there with some form of guided tour, but that would need to be planned in advance. Alternatively, you could set off early in the day and allow a lot of time.In summary, Beijing is a lovely place. The architecture is amazing. The people are friendly. Hotels are affordable and clean. One feels safe. Food is tasty. I'm very much in favour in fostering good relations between the West and China. But western tourists should suspend your normal approach to sightseeing. Be prepared for internet restrictions, and language issues, to make it a lot harder than usual to get around or visit places. The authorities and the various travel organisations steer you towards organised tours, so maybe the best idea is to buy into this concept. Or perhaps you can get a Chinese buddy to explain things. So go with an open mind and be prepared to be patient, and play by the rules rather than trying to be too independent. Chen Abby, 营销 at Hilton Beijing Daxing, responded to this review Thank you so much for taking the time to share such a detailed and thoughtful review—your kind words about the hotel mean the world to us! We’re thrilled to hear you enjoyed the clean, spacious rooms, the quirky charm of our delivery robots, the delicious meals, and most of all, the support from our team, especially the concierge who helped with your e-sim. It’s our goal to make every guest feel cared for, and your recognition fuels our commitment to that.We truly appreciate you opening up about the challenges of getting around Beijing as a first-time visitor—language barriers, varying place name spellings, the complexity of the subway, and internet restrictions. These are hurdles we know many international guests face, and your insights will help us better support future travelers. We’re already brainstorming ways to assist: maybe compiling a guide to subway exits, sharing trusted local maps, or even helping with ride-hailing apps. It’s a shame you couldn’t make it to the Marco Polo Bridge—your passion for its history shines through, and we hope if you return, we can help plan that trip for you.Thank you again for your honesty and warmth. Beijing is lucky to have visitors like you, and we’d be honored to welcome you back soon. Here’s to smoother adventures next time!

Beautiful hotel with friendly staff, but no A/C.

    rating31 Oct 2023

This is a very beautiful and new hotel. My room was beautiful and spacious.Staff is very friendly and helpful and the choice for breakfast is excellent.Unfortunately I could not control the temperature in my room. And when it reached 27 degrees I told reception about it and was told A/C was switched off for the season. I have experienced this before in China but was chocked that a hotel like Hilton will make it so uncomfortable for their guests... to save money. As a Hilton Diamond member I use their hotels a lot around the world, but it's the first time I have experienced having no A/C.I will check if A/C is off, before I book here again. If so I will find a different hotel. Chen Abby, 营销 at Hilton Beijing Daxing, responded to this review Dear Guest,Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback, especially your recognition of our hotel’s beauty, spacious rooms, friendly staff, and excellent breakfast—these mean a lot to our team.We sincerely apologize for the discomfort caused by the unavailable A/C. We understand your frustration, especially as a Hilton Diamond member who frequently stays at our hotels worldwide, and this being your first experience without A/C. The seasonal A/C adjustment was made with operational considerations, but we clearly failed to prioritize guest comfort, which is unacceptable. We have escalated this issue to our management team to optimize temperature control—we’ll flexibly adjust A/C based on actual weather and guest needs, avoiding such discomfort again. We hope you’ll give us another chance. If you plan to book again, feel free to contact us first to confirm A/C status. We’re committed to delivering the consistent quality a Diamond member deserves. Thank you for holding us to a high standard. ——Hilton Beijing Daxing

    A great staycation place

    rating08 Aug 2023

A wonderful new Hilton at the outskirts of Beijing! A perfect tranquil getaway without going too far out of the city. The facilities are clean and well-maintained. The swimming pool & fitness centre are of adequate size and clean, however, during our stay, they were not open until 12 noon. The rooms are of big sizes and even have separate closet and dressing table. It’s lovely and quiet, great for relaxation. There is a shopping mall 15 minutes walk from the hotel with quite many choices of food. McDonald’s, subway and Starbucks are there too. All in all a wonderful quaint Hilton! Chen Abby, 营销 at Hilton Beijing Daxing, responded to this review Dear Guest,Thank you so much for calling our hotel a "great staycation place" and sharing your wonderful experience!
