    A hotel of contracting highs and lows….

    Having booked Hilton Wangfujing with high expectations, we found the hotel to be one of quite contrasting positives & negatives. The negatives - 1. front desk staff language skills were below average for 5 star hotel, 2. the deposit was excessive and taken in a second but returned slowly, which they blame on banks and say is standard, but after 5 weeks travelling around the world this hotel and one other are the only that asked fora sought to hold a deposit for an extended period. 3. Food in the Lounge was poor and the wine selection was even worse.Positives: 1. Concierge staff were very helpful with good language skills and helped us pre-arrange two all day tours with Peony Tour co (who were also excellent. 2. Lounge staff were very good (Ivanca & Zachary of note), and while the lounge food & wine we found to be below average, their attitude was faultless. 3. Rooms were good.

    My wife and I had the opportunity to stay in the Hilton Beijing Wangfujing in late April 2026. It is centrally-located, near the Forbidden City, with easy access to the easy-to-navigate subway. We went everywhere on the subway. In truth, the hotel itself has what a traveler would expect in a Hilton – decent rooms, a decent gym, sometimes decent food in the restaurant. But, what stood out was the concierge staff. Really. The concierge staff is run by Elvis Yu. Elvis is a part of Les Clefs d’Or, an elite organization of hotel concierges, and I am telling you: he made the difference between a good trip and a fantastic one. His recommendations were spot-on, from food to tours to local interest spots to what to do when you arrive at the airport (take him up on getting you a driver and guide there). We had a problem with our credit card for a day, and he literally walked us to the nearby Bank of China branch and helped us solve it. Go to his hotel. Ask his advice. Listen to him. He and his staff will make all the difference in the world. Truly a terrific gentleman, and a credit to Hilton hotels and to Les Clefs d’Or.
