Bad experiences and not worth staying here other than the location!

    rating24 Mar 2025

This is the hotel we stayed in our recent trip to Beijing and we stayed here for 3 nights. Honestly this is not even a 3-star hotel (not to mention it's rated 4-star). Other than it's location, we find no reason of staying here and totally it's not worth it.First, the hotel is very dated, as if time have traveled back to the 80s~90s (from the decor and furniture you can see from the pictures). We don't even bother to photo the hotel lobby.Although the room is considered reasonably big, they have a lot of problems which we encountered. First, after checking in, the TV in our room had sound but no images and the stopper in the bathtub was not working (could not stop the water from draining). We called the reception but they didn't take to heart about it. Luckily when checking in, we had asked where to get ice cubes but the receptionists told us no ice cubes as they had no cafe. After insisting, they said they would bring some to our room! So an officer or manager came to deliver the ice cubes shortly and we told her about the problem. She tried to resolve the issue but could not fix them and called the technicians. After a while, a few technicians turned up to fix the problem. But we could sense that they were unhappy and kept telling us we didn't switch the TV "correctly" (huh?) and that's why no image?Next, the fridge. As mentioned, it was dated but we didn't expect the fridge too. We thought the fridge was not working as it was not cold after a day, then we called the staff (the following day) and to our surprise, we were told we had to manually turn on the fridge from the switch inside the fridge, thats the old fashioned fridge back to the 80s~90s! (there was no label or instruction stating that). The staff was unhappy and from her face as if we had owed her a living or being stupid who cannot turn on a fridge. Nowadays it's automatic with the room card inserted, power will be on and when removed, the power would be cut off.The breakfast was pathetic, as there was no cafe, it was provided in a ball room with a few tables and very small and limited spread of food, mostly local food. You will need to share tables with others in round tables if you come late as there were only 2 rectangle tables with 4~6 seats each. And also to our surprises, there wasn't even coffee or tea, only soy bean milk and warm milk (also the room did not offer coffee or tea sachets). The darkness wasn't over yet. We had ordered items from Taobao and somehow they rejected to receive some items for "no reason" (these are partying items like makeup and hats) and they had no proper system in registering the items. Anyone and everyone could just walk up to the shelves to "help themselves" searching over the items. I find asked the reception would I need to sign off the items and they just gave me the blank and emotional face and shaked her head. Luckily all our items were collected in order and on time, less the ones they rejected to receive. The only advantage of this hotel was the location (but there are other hotels also within the same area), that's 3~5min to the Wangfujin pedestrian shopping street with many departmental stores, eateries and souvenir shops. And there's a convenience store right at the lobby. Other than that, almost all were negative experiences. It's very rare for me to give a poor rating for a hotel in my walk around the world. I think based on my personal experiences and encounterments, this hotel definitely does not deserve a 3-star (not to mention it's a 4-star) rating, one of the few worse handful hotels I have stayed.Highly not recommended.

Great location just accept the dreariness

    rating04 Jan 2020

The location, especially considering the price, is fantastic. Walking distance to Tiananmen Square and the Wangfujing metro and shopping area. We were able to get a taxi right outside the front door so I don't know why others are saying this isn't possible. The hotel itself is old, tired and very communist. However our room was clean and I had no real complaints, just don't expect luxury. Wifi (with VPN) worked well. The worst element were the staff who were incredibly slow and rude to the point of frustration. I would also avoid the breakfast and restaurant. But all in, these points aren't very important - it's a reasonably priced hotel in one of the best locations

The Good, The Bad and the Ugly

    rating20 Sept 2019

The Good: This hotel is in a great central location for exploring. It’s close enough to Tiananmen Square and The Forbidden City to walk. It’s also just around the corner from a good open shopping mall and restaurants are easily accessible. The hotel offerings at breakfast were adequate too with both Western and Asian offerings. The Bad: there is no place for a bus to stop at the front of the hotel so you’ll need to be able to lug your bags a few hundred metres. Facilities within the rooms were limited and dated. Although the beds and towels were clean, not much else was. The daily room servicing seemed a bit hit and miss with towels missing and complimentary water sometimes missing. The Ugly: I’ll keep it simple here - it was very dirty. Carpets were stained in a number of places. The bathroom had black mould on tiles and ceiling above bath. Basin was cracked. Shower leaked on bathroom floor. We moved after 3 nights- should have done it sooner!
