    Close to Hongqiao airport and Shanghai Zoo

    Booked to stay in the Grand Mercure Shanghai Hongqiao from 22 December 2025 to 8 January 2026. The welcoming hotel Reception staff upgraded me to a suite on the 21st floor without my asking (I am an Accor-all member). The suite came with a washing machine, and high-end toilet in the bathroom that has a heated seat and built-in bidet. I booked to stay here because it's not far from Shanghai Hongqiao train station, from where I caught a bullet train to Taizhou, to see the Southern end of the Great Wall, and also close by car to Shanghai Hongqiao airport, from where I booked flights for short trips to Xi'an (to see the Terracotta Army), and Xiamen island. The hotel is not far from Shanghai Zoo where you can go see the giant pandas, also not far from small and big shopping malls. It's easy to get private cabs to go into the city to visit Yu Garden, Museums, etc. The hotel staff in the Restaurant, in the Cafe, in the Sauna are all very helpful. Reception staff guided me to purchase a China mobile number on arrival day and it did make things easier. The suite and view from the suite was amazing.     5 star hotel in Shanghai city center, with a balcony (rare).

    recently stayed again, probably about the 5th time in total since 2024. It is a good hotel, reasonably priced if choose the right time...their prices fluctuate a lot at random. The draw of the place is cost, location, 5 star and balcony. Hardly any hotels at all in Shanghai have a balcony. Rooms are big, with a kitchenette and even a washing machine.I would personally say that this is a 5 star experience but the breakfast seems to have dipped in quality a little bit as if the hotel management is focused on saving costage. But it is still good and the design of the building is cool. You can look all the way down from whatever floor you ate staying on and see the restaurant in action.Location wise, need to know a bit about it or be savvy. It is walkable from nearest metro stop but takes 15 minutes doing that. It is located in a financial area of Changning.     I stayed Grand Mercure hotel in August with my family for holiday. We had great experience at all. The staffs are really friendly and helped us for tourist needs.     Not the best choice in the area. Good value for money but not well maintained. Room I had have a weird design. Air condition noisy. Bathroom amenities scary.
