Location

This hotel is located in Jing An, the leading business district of Shanghai, and lies a few steps from the famous Nanjing West Road, home to some of the city's high-end commercial properties and exclusive shopping venues such as Jiu Guang City Plaza, Plaza 66 and CITIC Square. It is right next to the Jing'an Temple and Kun Sjan is an hour's drive away.

Facility

The hotel welcomes guests in a 29-storey building with a lift and 467 rooms. English-speaking staff at the reception desk in the lobby are ready to assist you with check-in and check-out. A cloakroom, baggage storage service, safe, currency exchange service and cash machine are available. Wireless internet access in public areas allows guests to stay connected. The hotel offers a number of facilities for guests with disabilities. The hotel has wheelchair-accessible facilities. There are a number of shops as well. Guests arriving by car can park their vehicles in the garage or in the car park. Other services include a 24-hour security service, a babysitting service, medical assistance, a transfer service, 24-hour room service, an alarm call service, a laundry service, a hairdresser and a coin-operated laundry. Active guests can make use of the bicycle hire service (no extra charge) to explore the surrounding area. To assist guests with their business and communication needs, the business centre offers a fax machine.

Rooms

Rooms are equipped with air conditioning and central heating. All rooms are carpeted and include a double bed, a queen-size bed or a king-size bed. Extra beds can be requested. A safe, a minibar and a desk are also available. A refrigerator, a mini fridge and a tea/coffee station are standard features. An ironing set is provided for guests' convenience. A direct dial telephone, a television with satellite/cable channels, a radio, a stereo system, an alarm clock and WiFi (no extra charge) are provided as well. Amenities provided in the rooms include slippers and a daily paper. Bathrooms are equipped with a shower and a bathtub. A hairdryer, a vanity mirror, bathrobes and a telephone are available for daily use. As a special feature, bathrooms are also stocked with cosmetic products and a selection of towels. Guests can also book wheelchair-friendly rooms with wheelchair-accessible bathrooms. Family rooms are available for parents with children.

Sport

While the adults swim a few laps in the indoor pool, children can splash around in the kids' pools. Refreshing drinks at the pool bar and a relaxing soak in the hot tub offer the perfect way to unwind. A wide range of indoor sports are offered, including a gym or, for a fee, table tennis, badminton, billiards, darts, bowling, squash, aerobics and handball. Various wellness options are available at the hotel, including a spa, a sauna, a steam bath, a hammam, a beauty salon, massage treatments and hydrotherapy treatments. Guests of all ages have the opportunity to enjoy a fun entertainment programme (for a fee).

Meals

Various dining options are available, including a restaurant, a café and a bar. Catering options include bed and breakfast, full board and all-inclusive. A generous breakfast buffet, lunch and a comprehensive dinner buffet offer plenty of delicious variety. Staff are also happy to provide children's meals. The hotel also offers snacks.

    The Exclusive Lounge was amazing. The staff were friendly and professional, and the atmosphere was quiet and relaxing. I really enjoyed the afternoon tea and evening cocktails.     Very good stay and service

    I had a great stay at Swissotel Grand Shanghai this time (I was not so impressed last time, but to be fair, that was during Covid, so service was limited back then). I had a nice and comfortable, well-kept and very clean room on the 26th floor with a great layout and very comfortable bed. Room-wise, this hotel is much better than its more recently renovated sister hotel in Beijing (Swissotel Macao Center). Also their lounge, service and gym are way better here, although some of the gym equipment could need an upgrade. My favourite part of the hotel was their lounge on the 27th floor, which was great for working and relaxing. They serve Jing Tea - which has been a favourite of mine since I discovered it at Fairmont Prague, in particular the green tea is very good. And the staff members were always attentive and helpful. Being able to walk the stairs instead of taking the elevator between the 26th and 27th floor was also very convenient.Room for improvement? Yes, the bread in the lounge wasn’t anything to write home about, and there is a lot of utensils used for the same food at the buffet (smoked salmon and meat, for example) - in particular in the morning. In combination with fresh food being left out over time (at least the cheese could deserve to be kept cold), that reduced the experience a little. And it would have been nice to get information about the opening hours and services at the lounge upon check-in or in the room (I had to go back and ask for it). Also, I was never able to turn the lights inside the clothes cabinet off - so I slept with that light on both nights. Finally, the mozzarella sticks I ordered in the lobby bar did not have melted mozzarella instead - just air. Never experienced that before :-)But all in all, a great hotel. I wish I could have stayed longer and hope to come back soon.

    Convenient location but service can be better

    The hotel is surrounded by malls (both mid and high end) and eateries, plus the subway station exit is just a minute walk from the hotel and it is connected to 3 subway lines - super convenient! Room size was fine for 2 guests, the bathroom size is spacious and comes with a bathtub. Complimentary bottled water provided but do note that guests need to request for amenities (the hotel's sustainability initiative). An area of improvement would be the service - Shanghainese are not the most friendly people but I was not expecting the same from those in the hospitality industry, particularly a Swissôtel. I went to the front desk to ask which drop-off point to select on didi, the front desk personnel frowned and told me to ask her colleague at the concierge. Went to the concierge and the staff told me to just key in the address of the location (basically not answering my question at all). And the doormen, no greeting of guest, no helping to open car door and no help with luggage - not sure what's their job purpose.One last thing, the room was not cleaned thoroughly - clumps of dust can be seen.     Impressive Executive Lounge & Friendly Staff

    The hotel offers excellent service, and I was especially impressed with the Executive Lounge, the staff were consistently warm and attentive throughout my five-night stay. There were also two Thai staff members, which was a lovely touch!
