Location

    Outstanding stay at the Waldorf!

    We had the most outstanding stay at the Waldorf on the Bund in Shanghai! The buildings, rooms, decor were beautifully done and very comfortable. Jason and the concierge team were extremely helpful with dining reservations, shopping tips, and transportation from the hotel. Jonny and Roy provided excellent service helping my elderly father at the pool. The pool has a lovely view of historic buildings and was very peaceful in the mornings. Everything was well stocked - exactly what you'd expect from a luxury hotel. Out of our stays in Asia, we enjoyed this Waldorf the most. Will definitely be back!

    Stayed here for business and loved the room, amazing deco, incredible views of the Bund and really nice breakfast too. I needed a room earlier and the only way was to get an upgrade which was a little annoying but the room was really lovely

    We had a girls trip to Shanghai with a full itinerary of fine dining, touring, having clothes made, and even photos done. Our trip was made next level through the expert help and warm advice of our concierge Jimmy. Whether it was reservations at Cafe Louis - accompanied by a fun tour of the Louis Vuitton Ship or dinner at Prada RongZhai or jazz at the Peace Hotel - Jimmy was able to help us. And then for simple family-style Shanghainese dinner - he found us a Michelin bib gourmand that fit the spot. Yuyuan Garden tea house. What stood out was his helping us with handwritten cards and guidance for each of our forays out. This was such a memorable trip!!!

    More Hilton than Waldorf.

    Large hotel a block in from the Bund. Very popular with cruise passengers and Russian tourists. Large marble lobby refreshingly cool on a sultry day.Pay up for a room facing the river and specify that it's away from the adjacent 1970's era office block that impedes some views. Suites attractive and turn down service efficient. Difficult to match the views across the river towards Pudong at night.Major positive a great concierge ( and team ) who knows the town and can get reservations at otherwise sold out restaurants.Two things let the place down . Main hotel restaurant is a large oval shaped dining space that's noisy, crowded and where the food is expensive and institutional in its mediocrity. Getting a coffee at breakfast painfully slow. Check in staff also seem to be rushed off their feet. It took 35 minutes to get registered even though I'd done it online before arrival.Conclusion : Good location but more Hilton than Waldorf.
