This hotel can charge additional tax "at their discretion" (e.g., 19% VAT) and for me that came up close to USD300 at the time of check in. They should either make this more clear at the time of booking or include in the booking price cuz I would not have booked the hotel at that rate (not worth it). Manager adamant that it is their 'policy'. I made couple calls but decided not to pursue further to save my time and I had a sponsor but this is opacity at guests' cost. Never again

Two visit, two very different experiences
01 Mar 2026
We stayed here for five nights on our first visit starting on 9th January 2026. We arrived late evening after our two flight journey to Bogota. We had booked a Gramd Club King Suite via our UK tour company. On arrival we were told no, you don't have a suite of any kind just a King bedroom. Fortunately a local guide had met us at the airport and was able to talk to them in Spanish. She ended up paying the upgrade cost via her company credit card to secure us the suite after a 20-30 minute dialogue with the receptionist. We had showed proof of our booking. The next day she received a refund and they said it was their mistake, but no apology. We were also informed at check in that the Club Lounge (the reason we had booked this hotel) was closed for refurbishment. Our suite was very nice with quite good views. With the club closed we could have breakfast in one of the restaurants and the small downstairs bar would act as a temporary lounge. This arrangement was not good at all. Breakfast was poor. The bar told us we could only have wine or beer and gave us an unpriced menu of hot and cold mini sized bar snacks, which we assumed were included in our rate as per the lounge. No, on checking out we were charged over £150 for the four evenings we ate from that unpriced menu with at no time any indication we would be charged. The staff were very overworked in the bar, families with small children were running around and shouting and there were only four small tables with chairs available. All in all it was not what we had paid for. On our last morning the refurbished Club Lounge was re-opened and we went in for breakfast. All items including eggs etc. which should have been hot were at best tepid and the staff had to take our food and microwave it to get it hot. We were definitely not impressed. Our second visit was for one night at the end of our trip. This time we experienced the same thing at check-in and this time were without our guide. We explained about the room type mistake previously and again it took us a long time to get the receptionist to agree to let us into our correct suite type. He indicated that they clearly had us booked for just a room, he would investigate further and we would have to pay for the 'upgrade' on check out unless he could get the matter cleared up. Of course it was their mistake again and we were not charged anything when we checked out. This time the Club Lounge was fully functioning and was excellent. We were offered spirits, cocktails etc as well as the beer and wine, the staff were really good, helpful and friendly and the evening food really good. Breakfast the next morning was good too. What a difference to our first stay.To say we were disappointed with our first five night stay is an understatement. They should have warned us in advance that the Lounge was closed and as for the incorrect room type, this was really poor. The local travel agents had all the proof of booking as did we and to make the same mistake twice was hopeless.

Dear @Bob-a-JobSussex,Thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed and honest review. I am truly sorry for the disappointments you experienced during your first stay with us. The issues you describe regarding the incorrect room assignment, the lack of advance communication about the temporary Club Lounge closure, and the charges in the bar—especially without clear information—do not reflect the service standard we aim to deliver. I fully understand how frustrating and disheartening these situations must have been, particularly after a long journey and with a confirmed booking in hand.I also regret that your experience during breakfast and throughout the temporary lounge arrangement fell short of what you expected and deserved. Your comments are invaluable, and we take each of them seriously as part of our ongoing commitment to improving clarity, consistency, and guest care.It is reassuring to know that your second visit was much more aligned with the level of service we strive to provide, and that you were able to enjoy the fully renovated Club Lounge, the improved atmosphere, and the attentive staff. Still, it is clear that the challenges of your first stay had a significant impact, and for that, I sincerely apologize.Thank you again for sharing your feedback with such openness. I hope we will have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future and provide you with the seamless and enjoyable experience you expected from the beginning.Warm regards,Ana RodríguezGuest Experience Manager
