    Bogata Columbia

    rating12 Feb 2025

Travel Review: Bogotá, Colombia – A City of Culture, History, and Stunning ViewsBogotá, the capital of Colombia, is a vibrant city that blends colonial history, modern innovation, and breathtaking landscapes. Sitting at an altitude of 2,640 meters (8,660 feet) in the Andes Mountains, it offers cool weather year-round, making it a refreshing destination for travelers.Historic Charm & CultureThe city’s heart is La Candelaria, a historic district filled with cobblestone streets, colorful colonial buildings, and some of the country’s most important landmarks. Plaza Bolívar is the central square, surrounded by the grand Catedral Primada and government buildings. The Gold Museum (Museo del Oro) is a must-visit, showcasing an extensive collection of pre-Hispanic gold artifacts that tell the story of Colombia’s indigenous cultures. For contemporary art lovers, the Botero Museum features works by Fernando Botero, Colombia’s most famous artist, as well as pieces by Picasso, Dalí, and Monet. Bogotá is also known for its thriving street art scene, especially in La Candelaria, where massive murals tell political and cultural stories.Breathtaking Views & Outdoor AdventuresNo trip to Bogotá is complete without a visit to Monserrate, a mountain that towers over the city. A cable car, funicular, or a steep hike will take you to the top, where you’ll find a historic church and panoramic views of the sprawling metropolis below. The sight at sunset is unforgettable. For those who love nature, a short trip outside the city leads to Chingaza National Park or La Chorrera Waterfall, the tallest in Colombia. The lush landscapes offer hiking, wildlife spotting, and a break from the urban energy.Gastronomy & NightlifeBogotá’s food scene is a mix of traditional flavors and modern gastronomy. Ajiaco, a hearty chicken and potato soup, is a local favorite, best enjoyed at La Puerta Falsa, one of the city’s oldest restaurants. If you want a taste of Colombian coffee culture, Bogotá’s cafés serve some of the world’s finest brews, with the Zona G district being the hotspot for specialty coffee shops. At night, the Zona T and Usaquén neighborhoods come alive with bars, clubs, and live music venues. Andrés Carne de Res, located just outside the city in Chía, is a legendary spot combining great food, music, and an energetic party atmosphere.Final ThoughtsBogotá may not always be at the top of travelers’ lists compared to Medellín or Cartagena, but its rich culture, stunning scenery, and welcoming locals make it a must-visit. Whether you’re exploring historical sites, hiking in the Andes, or diving into the city’s nightlife, Bogotá offers something for every kind of traveler.Would I return? Absolutely. There’s always something new to discover in this dynamic Andean capital.

affordable stay if you want to be in the main part of the city.

    rating21 Feb 2024

Very close to the main part of the city park and restaurants. Staff are very courteous but hardly speak anything other than Spanish. An ok place to stay if you want to stay in the main part of the city. Street facing rooms have a view, most of the rooms have no city view. Breakfast has some options, and snack bar has very little to pick from.Tap water is not potable, bottled water can be bought at the reception. There is an Pizzaria on the ground floor of the hotel. Their kitchen exhaust somehow got into the AC, and I had to fight with the staff to get a different room. My friend had to spend a night outside of his room because it was becoming unsafe to stay in the room.

    Great hotel, extremely helpful staff

    rating13 Sept 2023

While it's a Holiday Inn "Express", it's a great hotel: Clean, modern looking and with extremely, helpful staff. I stayed in a "Suite" with a king bed. The room was clean, modern and with the necessary toiletries in the bathroom. The room overlooked one of the main streets, but it was very quite, even though I was on the 2nd floor. Breakfast was basic, with pastries, fruits and cereals. Nothing fancy. I believe you could order eggs. What is really amazing about this hotel is its very friendly and helpful staff. More about that below. There are a few restaurants in the area, but many close early (by 10 pm) on weekdays and on Sunday. I was caught off guard on a Sunday night. Nothing within walking distance (or even short distance by cab) was open after 10 pm.On the Sunday when restaurants close early, the only option you seem to have it to order and use the Rappi app for delivery, That too, can be a challenge since almost all the places stop delivery after 11 pm and a handful stop delivery at 12 midnight. I had a challenge trying to register my credit card for payment on the Rappi app. The front desk clerk was a godsend and helped me with this. As I was checking out, a staff member of the room cleaning staff ran down to hand over on item I had forgotten in the room. That is true dedication and great service!

All that you need in a hotel! Plus more !

    rating30 Jan 2023

Súper clean, the staff was incredibly helpful and polite. The breakfast buffet was amazing and complementary. The hotel’s location is highly safe and have cabs on standby 24 hrs a day! We’ll definitely be back soon. You may experience some street noise but besides that 4 stars!
