The Palace of the Inquisition and San Felipe de Barajas Castle are easily accessible by car. This was the 6th or 7nd time that we booked this hotel, for more than a week.As we are Hilton Diamond, and made the reservation for a suite two or more months before the arrival, we would expect having a room on one of higher foors available upon arrival. Big disappointment. They had only a suite on the third floor ( the lowest...)After discussing for more than 30 minutes, we could get one on the sixt , but than we had to wait for two hours until the room was ready. I got the idea that they were thinking : they will come back anyway. My opinion is that they could be very wrong...If they give upgrades to everyone and get in trouble with the availability, I don't agree.The suite on the sixt was ok, although the other years we always had 8 or 9th, but as an extra we had this time the neighbours dog barking us awake every morning.Big appreciation for the waiters in the restaurant for breakfast, and the waitreses in the executive lounge, who are allways very nice although sometimes they speak very little English. This can not be said about he lady host of the executive lounge, who only makes conversation to spanish speaking people and totally neglects us, being diamond an thus on booking an executive suite have paid double to enter the lounge.About the renovation of the pool : this is at this time no problem, due to the low occupation, more than enough seats and swimming space available.I am sorry having to write this review, we are always staying in Hilton everywhere en therefore being diamond, but being treated as sh... is not ok.

Admittedly, I have a high standard for Hilton properties - especially as a Diamond member. This property falls short of all those standards. It has poor service, cleanliness, and food and beverage quality. It is a 2 star hotel charging 4 star prices. Avoid it.

Typically, we love this Hilton. We stay here every year when we are in Colombia to visit family. Unfortunately the pool that we pay the big bucks for is totally under construction and we were not informed of this so we made a nonrefundable reservation. The hotel made it right, which we really appreciate and we were able to get a refund in the end, but if you’re planning a trip with kids to this hotel, do your research first so you don’t waste precious pool time getting a refund and looking for a new place to stay. The hotel is at the far end of a spit of land called Bocagrande, a reasonable way away from the historic centre. We spent a couple of nights in the historic centre and then moved here for a more relaxed vibe, which worked well.The neighbourhood and Hilton both feel like faded glory, with the former definitely not looking its best. Many of the roads were flooded when we visited and the whole area doesn’t feel at all special. It did feel pretty safe walking around, though.Check-in by Esteban was exemplary and Freddy the bellboy was super friendly. We were upgraded to a sea-view room and my Hilton status was recognised.Our room could definitely have done with a comprehensive refurb, as it had an early 2000s vibe. The soundproofing was extremely poor and we could hear the adjoining room’s TV at all times.We loved the extensive pools and they made up for the sea being super rough during our visit and basically inaccessible. When we did venture to the beach it was marginally less hassle than more public beaches. The pools are very much showing their age, with many little tiles coming off.Breakfast was extensive, although busy. The fresh smoothies were a particular highlight. The executive lounge on the top floor was adequate and the staff particularly friendly and pleasant.The hotel will need a significant upgrade and refurbishment if it’s to compete with the many new hotels in Cartagena, but we felt we got good value for the money we paid.
