Great hotel and the included attractions (hot springs and waterfall) were good too.

Horrible experience, way overpriced, and we got sick from the food

    rating13 Apr 2026

We live nearby and visited on a day trip to see if it could be a good place for our friends and family to stay in the future. After spending only a few hours at this place I would recommend NOT to go there, the staff was rude, the tours are way overpriced, and the lunch from the Don Elias buffet made both my husband and I terribly sick. Within 5 minutes of arriving we felt unwelcome and as if we were inconveniencing the staff. We took an uber there and were told we won't get an uber home, but the hotel could arrange transportation for an extra cost, that turned out to be a lie. They have buses that take guests around the property but only hotel guests. Originally we wanted to do hot springs but it would have been a 2 hour walk to get there or an hour wait for a bus. So we paid $97 for a waterfall and lunch combo, at the waterfall the guard said he had to check if we actually paid because we had another bracelet for another waterfall, this seemed so disorganized and unprofessional, and it was at this point I realized we must've got ripped off and sent to a smaller waterfall for the same price. The lunch was awful, normally authentic costa rican food is very affordable in Liberia but we were charged $30 to eat cold food that is left out for hours, only partially covered, so flies could get in to everything. I never got an itemized bill for the lunch/waterfall but on their website the waterfall is $20 so I guess I paid $30 for this lunch that made both me and my husband terribly sick with diarrhea all night and day. We have been to many resorts in Costa Rica and a buffet lunch for $30 should have a lot more variety and at least practice food safety. Definitely don't go here, you can find so many other waterfalls and local food for much better prices elsewhere.

    Great experience for my group!

    rating08 Apr 2026

I stayed here with a group of nine students and parents for 3 1/2 days, and it was a wonderful experience! The hotel grounds are pretty and well kept, there is a nice pool area, and different things to do in the immediate area. We took our group horseback riding, Whitewater tubing, and zip lining. We also went to the thermal Hot Springs, which are a short drive away. Overall, it was a wonderful experience! the food at the restaurant is excellent! The staff is very friendly and welcoming, and headed to all of our knees! There are so many

    Stay more than one night!

    rating05 Apr 2026

I planned a one-night stopover at Guachipelin to break up the travel between Monteverde and our final destination at Papagayo, and chose Hacienda Guachipelin without much thought. What a mistake - this ended up being one of our favorite places in Costa Rica, and we only had one night here! The hotel is extremely charming - rooms are rustic but spotlessly clean, with a comfy hammock and chairs out front - but the real highlight is the access you have to all of the activities around you. We only had time to hike to Oropendola Waterfall, Las Chorotegas Waterfall, and the Rio Negro hot springs - but WOW! The hot springs, in particular, were fantastic. There are pools with many different temperature options and I personally liked them more than the fancier hot springs at Tabacon (though there is no swim up bar at Rio Negro!). The hotel also has a cute little pool and several dining options. We only had time for dinner and breakfast at the main restaurant, but it was delicious, and the service was great. Can't wait to come back and try more of the hotel's activities!

    Five days in Paradise!

    rating31 Mar 2026

Glamping at Hacienda Guachepelin was absolutely the highlight of our trip to Costa Rica. We stayed in the spacious luxury tent for 5 nights and enjoyed all the amenities. We feel like we had 5 days in paradise. The plunge pool was a great way to cool off after a hot hike. We loved sitting out on the lawn chaises to watch and listen to the birds. One day at breakfast, an entire troop of capuchin monkeys entertained us in the trees. It was a special treat to get the sumptuous breakfast delivered to our tent every morning. Our only criticism would be that there was way too much food. We were often able to save some for our lunch. Food portions at the Guachepelin Restaurant were also large so we usually shared a main course. Our tent was a great base from which we hiked to the various waterfalls, the Red and Turquoise Ponds, participated in the tubing adventure, and soaked in the hot springs. The shuttle buses worked well for us. Carlos at the Reception desk was very helpful and friendly. Thank you all for a wonderful experience.
