  Disappointing Arrival and Maintenance at Aloft San Jose Costa Rica

  Stayed one night after a late arrival from LAX. The front door was locked with no visible reception staff—we waited 10 minutes outside in confusion, wondering if we needed to call or reboot something before someone finally answered.Rooms were adequate and beds comfortable, but walls showed clear wear like furniture scrapes/damage, below Marriott Bonvoy standards. Buffet breakfast was okay— some variety but nothing standout. Glad I wasn’t there for multiple breakfasts. Expected more from the brand: reliable 24/7 desk presence and upkeep. Fine for a quick stopover near the airport, though overpriced. Pura vida elsewhere next time.

  Good Option w/Dining & Shopping Nearby - Frustrating Bathroom Lighting

  We stayed here just one night, for a quick shopping trip. I'll start with the negative comments, but finish with the strong points of this hotel. The Not So Good:- The bathroom lighting is off the charts stupid. There is just ONE light switch for the entire bathroom area. This turns on the light in both the toilet & shower room AND the light over the sink - which is open to the bedroom. So, when you switch on the light in the middle of the night, you are greeted by a blinding overhead florescent light that illuminates the entire bedroom. Even better, neither of the switches are labeled so you have to remember that the one FURTHEST from the bathroom is the switch for the bathroom ... the other switch is for the light directly above the bed. I was either woken up by the blinding light from the bathroom sink area, or from my travelling partner accidentally turning on the light above the bed instead of the bathroom light. It's the dumbest set-up I've encountered in a major hotel. - Check-in was frustrating as there was only one staff member working the desk right at check-in time. There were LOTS of staff around, mingling and doing what appeared to be Christmas crafts in the little store area. I appreciate that not every staff member can hop on reception, but nobody seemed to care that I stood there waiting 10 minutes to check-in. - There are two desks in the room, but only one with a chair. - Rooms ending in 23, 25, 27 and 29 face the road, which is very busy and noisy (even through the night). We requested a high floor with a quiet room but got neither. The Good:- Parking was easy, right beside the building. - Bed, pillows and linens were SUPER comfy.- The room had TRUE blackout blinds where they roll up and down inside a track that blocks out 99% of the exterior light. - Breakfast was a good selection of hot options, EXCELLENT coffee, and great service.- Lots of restaurants within walking distance, plus Auto Mercado grocery store just down the street. Overall we would choose this hotel again as it was clean, comfortable, and convenient.   A great place to stay in San Jose

  We had a late flight into San Jose last night. The hotel was so trendy and cool. My kids loved it. The staff was so incredibly inviting and helpful as we arrived around 11pm. The hotel was very clean and well managed. The beds were definitely very comfortable and so were the pillows. The buffet breakfast was excellent. So many options. The servers were very attentive. After breakfast we went for a swim in the pool. They had a light relaxing music playing in the background. The water temperature was perfect.   We had a lovely stay at this hotel! Although it has a minimalist style and is somewhat dated, everything was exceptionally clean and well-maintained. The breakfast buffet exceeded our expectations—plentiful, fresh, and delicious!The best part of our stay was the staff. Everyone we encountered was friendly and helpful.
