    Noisy place

    The staff is friendly and location is great. Unfortunately I could not sleep the whole night. There were noises all night and the guy at reception did not care. I woke up many many times because people knocks, scream and shut doors. I told the manager at 1am about it. He did not care. Also the only way to get in the hotel is people buzz the gate. And it happen every 15 min.

    Located in a nicer neighbourhood compared to the rest of San Jose

    The appearance from the outside was deceptive compared to the inside. Rooms were small and basic with dated decor. Beds were very uncomfortable and the bathroom was quite dirty with bad, cold shower and toilet that leaked. I would not stay again. The only positives were the price, communal areas and its location within a less busy neighbourhood about 20 minutes walk away from the main bus station.

    Old tired and need screens in windows

    Many complaints here. My room had no proper curtains and no screens in the windows.I want a dark room to sleep in and this room had no fan or AC.so its stuffy.In a country with tropical climate and bugs galore these are very basic requirements.Less of a problem was the tiny old tv my lap top screen is bigger.I had to ask for towels and a glass and was told I would have to pay 20USD for a fan. Clearly hospitality is really lacking here.Lastly the trains blowing their horn right outside every few minutes. Not my idea of. starting or ending a holiday. I came to this area for the food but will shop around for a hotel next time.

    Charming Old World Feel

    Hotel 1492 was in a convenient location with lots of restaurants nearby. The staff was helpful and friendly. Our room was pretty small and didn't even have a chair, but there were nice sitting areas in the common areas. You can buy breakfast for an extra $5 (US) per person with three different options. We had breakfast and it was kind of mediocre. But the area where it was served was a nice little courtyard. The room had a window seat looking into our own private garden area, which you can't actually go into. But it was nice to see. The bathroom had a screened window which had tears in it and thus allowed bugs inside. It was an interesting place that felt a bit like being in Europe.

    Great value for money

    Great value for money in this small, off-the-beaten track boutique hotel in San Jose's hip Barrio Escalante. Literally TONS of cafes, bars, restaurants within 5 minutes walking distance, in a safe neighborhood. Rooms are small and basic but clean, Wifi and TV work great.
