    Clean, unique and economical.

    rating12 Mar 2026

Our group of 3 couples stayed here for one night before embarking on the Camino de Costa Rica. The staff were friendly and helpful. The building had character, breakfast was tasty (although the coffee was very weak). Beds were comfortable; the whole hotel was very clean. We would stay here again.

    rating02 Mar 2026

We really enjoyed our stay here. This is a lovely hotel with a pool in a yard, which is great for relaxing after sightseeing. Our room was large and comfortable. I would definitely recommend a room on the top floor.Breakfast was really good and the staff were great.

Nice hotel in a marginal neighborhood

    rating02 Feb 2026

my room with balcony was fine. Staff was nice and helpful. although breakfast is included, they were unable to provide any type of accommodation including coffee before 7 AM .The door to my balcony did not lock. no ice was available. From a security perspective, most importantly the neighborhood is marginal. my tour operator told me that the neighborhood becomes quite dangerous at night. AdvisorHST, at Hotel Santo Tomas, responded to this review Hi Julia, thank you for your kind words. You must have missed the coffee machine in the lobby, available 24/7, grinds the beans for a fresh cup and offers 12 different beverages, especially that mocha!Thank you Thomas

Decent One-Night Stay After a Long Flight

    rating15 Nov 2025

I booked just one night at this hotel as a stopover after a long flight from the UK to Costa Rica. Thankfully, I chose a ground-floor double room with a private bathroom. The room was well presented, although it looked a little tired in places.I checked in around 9 p.m., and the process was quick. To enter the hotel, you need to ring a doorbell (which isn’t very obvious) and then go up around seven steps to reach the reception area. After checking in, I was shown to my room. No assistance was offered with my luggage, so I was glad I’d chosen a ground-floor room. The hotel appears to have two floors, and I didn’t see an elevator, so if you’re staying on the first floor, be prepared to carry your bags up about 20 steps.Breakfast was included in the stay. It’s quite basic, with three options to choose from. I had the scrambled eggs with rice and beans, plantain, and toast, which arrived in about five minutes. It was okay—simple but filling. Coffee and juice were also available. I noticed a few other guests left a fair bit of their breakfast, but I finished mine. The breakfast area has around four tables and was quiet when I arrived at about 7:30 a.m., with only three tables occupied. After breakfast, I checked out and spent some time exploring the city before heading to my next destination..
