    It’s Cuba

    rating06 May 2026

For Cuba the food was great. Our room though, it had condoms in the trash, bugs, stunk, the AC worked when it wanted to. But the food and drinks were actually enjoyable. The grounds are huge. I don’t love the ocean as it’s in cayo so it’s very rocky and full of coral. So if you want a clear beach it’s best to take a taxi and the taxi will take you to the playa beach and it’s probably the best beach you will ever see in your life. The outside disco was a hit for us and for the kids. We went with a group of 18. Lots of mosquito bugs though so definitely bring bug spray! My only major concern was water. It was hard to find. Like extremely hard. They never restocked it and I went to the manager and begged for water and he gave me 4 bottles. I said there is 18 of us we have no water the shops are out of water the bars are out of water. So that was actually scary sometimes. Other than that hopefully that’s fixed, everything was great. I enjoyed the hotel.

Great resort, despite the country’s challenges. Excellent Day Spa.

    rating17 Feb 2026

This was our first time in Cuba and we spent 3 weeks there. The food was surprisingly good and the buffet had plenty in there including at times, shrimp, oysters, full turkeys, and tables of delicious desserts. There was chicken, pork, fish, beef etc. a great array. We went several times to the specialty restaurants and we were always served good food choices by friendly staff. Our room was large, clean and had a TV with English channels too! Our patio doors opened to a beautiful view of the pool. We had sporadic hot water & towels, no room phone, and we brought our own toilet paper, chips, candy, chocolate, peanut butter as we were ready for the challenges of a poor but gorgeous country in its natural state. Unfortunately our building’s sewer backed up twice onto the walking pathway so we walked around it until it was fixed. They have a beautiful day spa with massages, hot tub, sauna, swimming pool… so relaxing. We did a horse & buggy tour to a working ranch and stopped at the old cowboy restaurant for lobster dinners. Lots of good memories! Beach was rocky (wear water shoes). The nightly entertainment was very sparse but the hotel was only at 20% capacity as we were nearing the end of Canadian travel in Cuba. We left on Feb 6, 2026.We left US dollars tips wherever we went. God knows they need it. Won’t be going back

    rating11 Feb 2026

We stayed at the Melia Jardine Del Ray in Cayo Coco for three weeks. 4 bars, main bar and pool bar don’t have ice machines so when you go to get pina colada or daiquiri they are either missing ice which happens everyday or they are missing the powdered mix, yes powdered, nothing is made with juices. They only have rum or tequila. The roms smells of mold and mildew. Changed rooms three times, once because sewers were coming out of the ground outside our building which happened twice and lasted five days each, I complained about the cleaning girl who did an extremely poor job of cleaning our room, three times I complained about her but the problem was never corrected, or resolved, she would spend her day on the phone or talking to other staff and take 4 min to clean our room (and yes I timed it). They changed us to another building and room that smelled so bad of mold and mildew we had a hard time breathing and changed rooms the next day. Third room had no hot water for 7 out of the 10 days we were there until we left. Toilets don’t flush properly and you always have to ask for an extra roll of toilet paper because the paper is so thin you go through a roll quicker or youhave to hunt for towels and shower mats. Management tried their hardest to accommodate us. We were given a courtesy room to shower so that I could wash my hair but the water was lukewarm and there was no shower head. The bartenders at the lobby bar, especially one guy was unfriendly, other than him the people or Cuba are extremely frienly and always smile at you. The food is always, and I mean always cold no matter what you eat. The food is fair and most times had good flavour. I will not be returning to this hotel and maybe not even Cuba again, yes the cost of a trip here is reasonable compared to Mexico but I don’t recommend more than one week stays. When we arrived we had a large suitcase full of donations, such as garden gloves, nylons, vitamins, Tylenols, women's essentials, chocolates and candies, colouring books, and pencils, crayons, the staff were so appreciative of these items because they cannot afford or are not able to buy these items. General Manager, Director General at Jardines del Rey, responded to this review Dear 916heleneg, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We sincerely appreciate your feedback, as it helps us identify areas for improvement to ensure a better stay for all our guests. If you’d be open to sharing your contact details, we’d love to personally follow up and discuss how we can make your next visit exceptional.Thank you again for your honesty, and we hope you’ll consider giving us another chance to welcome you back.Sincerely,General Manager
