3 star boutique townhouse with 5 star decor, large beds, air con & drinks machines
19 May 2026
Full review 11-17/05/26Hotel Alfons is 5 mins from Wencenslas Sq, another 15 mins to Old Town, 2 mins from tram & western fast food chains, coffee shop opposite, minimart few doors along. Common areas: Entering through card operated automatic doors reveals a sophisticated ambience and impression. Receptionists operate 8am to 8pm with helpline out of hours. They speak English and seem able to sort out everything. They can store luggage in a cupboard off the reception lounge, where umbrellas are available. Taxis can wait in a bay right outside. Bear in mind reception is only 8am to 8pm so let them know anything you expect to be needed out of hours. They arranged a cab to the airport and a room switch. In fact they accidentally booked us to be collected for our room switch forgetting we were already there without us asking for any pickup, but no harm done just some puzzling texts. We had to pay a deposit of about EUR80 for the apartment. The city apparently charges about £2 per night tax. There is a website in English and guests are invited to leave reviews.A lift runs from halfway to first floor to half way to sixth floor (more than enough for a UK four star, but should be mentioned in advance). As a townhouse it's not really able to provide accessibility. Rooms are accessed via a lobby with seating on each side of the stairs per floor. The entrance and corridors have enough lighting at night, with evacuation signs posted. Rooms: Rooms range from 20m2 (Standard/Comfort) through 22m2 (Deluxe with kitchenette), 25m2 (Deluxe / Superior with kitchenette & extra bed) to 40m2 (Deluxe apartment for 4), with space to move around and open doors and access to both sides of bed.Beds are a really bigger queens not the kings stated, with blanket and duvets plus cushions, and plush headboards. Mattresses looks to be 6-7" and very firm so this would be the only deal-breaker for some with aching muscles, although the vast majority seem to get on with them. This links to the madness of EU stars, a deep low quality mattress scores higher than a thinner luxury mattress. Yet pillows are massive fluffy affairs although we got them swapped for firmer foam. Windows have nets and blackout curtains. Air con stays off until summer so you may need windows open especially in attic, these roof lights have blinds and close automatically in rain. Storage includes drawers, shelves and hanging space. Size of tables, number of tables and chairs, whether chair upholstery and whether a sofa depends on room grade.Rooms have a desk, bin, suitcase shelf, safe, TV and phone to reception, guest directory in English, ironing board, shoehorn and door viewer. Rooms from Comfort up have fridge with minibar and coffee machine. Plenty of sockets are provided but you need your own round pin Euro adapter and phone charging. Lights are several and can be controlled from bed.Sound barely perceptibly bleeds through from disco pub next door at weekends, but double glazing holds up well, attic rooms have triple glazing. City soundscape of traffic, sirens and revellers only audible with windows open. Doors are preassembled doorsets so fit snuggly, although not all deadlock from inside and you can hear voice from hall, although we never heard any comings and goings. The hall doors are even padded.Bathrooms all have toilet and shower with sliding doors, lit mirror, towel heater, sink with small worktop, towels, bath mat, hair dryer, basic toiletries, bin, tissues, sanitary bags, spare toilet roll and power. The toiletries and towels probably wouldn't quite make a UK three star as they are basic and thinning. This is a quick win, towels are a quality signal.Everything is clean and working, although bathrooms mirrors struggled with mist. Rooms and towels can be cleaned daily. Maintenance appears good. Unless a guest damaged something you'll only see professionally detailed finish to decor and fittings. We only found a tear in a cupboard door, which would be tricky to repair as they are customised. Eventually they'll kick themselves for installing shower enclosures that eventually leak due to joins in frames and whose rollers snap, and trendy shallow trays that dare minor clogs to overwhelm them, and flying shelves that eventually someone will put too much weight onbut it looks lovely. The wall mounted soap dispensers will eventually become more trouble than they're worth. The only niggle we could mention was ours was empty. The renovated room decor is modern and artistic while public areas were given an authentic inspired renovation. Any room will be a nice base to explore from, the more you upgrade the less you'll need the extra facilities although you get more space the more you pay. We tried a comfort double and deluxe apartment simply due to what was available. The attic apartment was a bargain and we loved the cosy feel of sloping ceiling and skylights and kitchenette, it just involves an extra flight of stairs.Facilities: Laundry service and toiletries are available. Spa, restaurant and garden closed for renovation until at least June 2026. With 39 rooms, it's not too clear how it would support a spa and restaurant, but hotels are under pressure to add facilities for points to bump up to the next star rating, even though it's surrounded by eateries. It doesn't have space for childcare, events or sports. Ratings: We estimate facilities amount to what in EU money is a Hotelstars 'two star superior' (three when spa and restaurant open depending what quality systems and deep cleaning done behind scenes). But this measures quantity of boxes ticked, whereas the quality is reminiscent of an English four star (eg corridors, laundry, decor, reception lounge, dining table and chairs in deluxe apartment, or even five star (safe, air con, smart TV, drinks machine and bed size), especially given you don't expect baths in a townhouse. It's quality, condition, presentation, comfort and usability is above its pay grade. All it can to do to try to bump up its rating is instal a drinks machine in reception and hire a ruinously expensive team of 24h reception staff, knock rooms together and make a thumping loss. It's fine as it is, it's Hotelstars that's broken. It only wouldn't get at least three stars under the UK AA scheme as its restaurant is closed, reception isn't 24h and only has one person running front of house and there's no porter, it's not made clear when booking that it's self catering (the coffee shop over the road is too busy to absorb everyone as hoped) without the much lauded garden, and there's no tourist information. It's ranked best value and in the top 10% of small Prague hotels despite being self catering due to price and five star decor some have described as art deco. The website now declares that breakfast is about £10 extra, which is still wrong. Conclusion: Let spas do your spas and restaurants do your restaurants. This is a hotel for sleep you'll take photos of, especially the bathrooms and feature wall around the headboard. The only reason to avoid it would be if you need to be in the town centre or need to eat in, but that doubles the cost. Once you realise how many places you can eat and how many trams can whisk you all over from a stone's throw from the hotel, it makes a lot of sense. We're giving five stars, as although we didn't like the lack of transparency, especially in there being no breakfast, we thought the quality and facilities makes up for it, although that is a matter of judgment on price, some would be upset at the building site going on in the garden.Pros-Decor-Facilities, eg air con, drinks machines-Large beds-Value-Close to shops, trams and Wenceslas SquareCons-Garden, restaurant & spa out of action-Toiletries could be decent miniatures & towels could be fluffier-Lift doesn't quite reach to top and bottom of building-No night reception-Next to disco pub (for some rooms)-Transparency could be improved eg building works

Delightful Experience!
26 Jan 2026
Was absolutely delighted with our choice of the Alfons Boutique Hotel! It is located a block away from a metro stop and a number of the bus lines. Since the public transport in Prague is easy to decifer, it was perfect. The variety and quality of items put out for breakfast was excellent, including the ability to make cappucinos or lattes. The staff were friendly and helpful and they take excellent care of the facility. Additionally, there is a lovely garden in back where you can enjoy your coffee or a glass of wine (bring your own). We will stay here again on our next visit to Prague!

Terrible Experience
23 Dec 2025
For our 40th anniversary trip, my wife and I booked a hotel the Alfons hotel Prague with our travel agent who uses Bedsonline they recommended the Alfons Hotel. We had a terrible experience. The description we received was totally misrepresented. The accommodation was not at all what we were told it would be. The staff were terribly abrupt and rude. The room we were given was tiny and on the top floor with only a small pop up window on the ceiling. In addition, the elevator did not go to the top floor, instead it stopped one floor below our floor and we had to climb 12 steep steps with our luggage to get to the top floor. I asked for assistance as I had recently had a knee operation, however I was told there was no help available. The rude front desk person told us the hotel was totally booked and there wasn't another room available. We called our travel agent and he acknowledged there was a problem when I had him speak to the front desk person. He suggested we book another, more appropriate accommodation which he assisted us in booking, he said he would deal with the problem with the Alfonse Hotel with Bedsonline by filing a report. Our report was very detailed and we provided names, details and photos. The new accommodation took a couple of hours to find, we wasted almost a day dealing with this very unfortunate incident. The hotel we booked was $600 more dollars for 4 nights than what we paid for the Alfons. Over 2 months after the incident our travel agent sent me a string of notes that he sent to Bedsonline who all but didn't respond until the agent had to re-send a number of follow up notes. The latest one indicated that Bedsonline had investigated and closed the report and gave us a 20% refund as a goodwill gesture, without ever contacting us to discuss the details. The note to our agent was sent by Samantha Gillingham. I asked my agent for Bedsonline contact information and he gave me Samantha Gillingham and Tommy Ryder's phone numbers. I called Mr. Ryder several times and left a message and received no response back. I then called Samantha Gillingham who was very curt and short with me, telling me I should not have been given her number. I explained what happened and all I wanted was a refund for the entire 4 nights charge from the Alfons that we did not stay at. She took my information and said she would get back to me. It has been a week now and I haven't received any communication from her or Tommy Ryder. I injured my knee (that was operated on before the trip) by climbing the steep steps up and down with luggage and we paid $600 more for appropriate accommodation and we wasted a day of our anniversary trip. I am not asking for anything more than the total amount we paid for the Alfons refunded back to us. I would not recommend staying at the Alfons and I would never use Bedsonline to book any travel.

Dear PmG202, thank you for sharing your feedback. We are sorry to hear that your stay did not meet your expectations; however, we would like to clarify several important points to ensure the information presented is accurate and fair to future guests.First, Alfons Hotel Prague has no contractual or operational relationship with Bedsonline. The names that you mentioned in the reservation is not our employees. Any communication, room descriptions, or recommendations provided by third-party agents are entirely outside of our control. We cannot be held responsible for information that was neither issued nor approved by our hotel. All room categories, photographs, layouts, and building details — including the fact that our hotel is located in a historic building, that the elevator stop in the mid floors and that the hotel is not wheelchair accessible — are clearly and transparently displayed across all official booking platforms. Guests are always encouraged to review these details carefully prior to booking. Also we sent informations but most probably your Travel Agent has not reflected any of our informations.Alfons Hotel Prague is a reasonably priced hotel offering very good services, but it is not advertised as a luxury or fully accessible property. If your travel agent would contact our team in advance with any information that the guest has medical issues, that accessible friendly room is needed or that the rooftop windows rooms is not for the guests preferred, we would be able to find some solution. But not when guest arrive in Advent, when the whole Prague properties are fully booked and between some phone calls (probably with travel agent) informs hotel reception that is disappointed and simply leave the hotel without allowing our team to explore possible solutions. We regret that the situation affected your trip; however, refund decisions for reservations made through third-party agents are handled exclusively by the booking intermediary, not by the hotel. Any claims or compensation must therefore be addressed with the party through which the reservation was made. At the same time, we feel it is very unfair to take a picture of the staircase, which we temporarily covered with rags to prevent the carpets from getting dirty while maintenance was removing garden materials from the garden and the carpet would immediately be very dirty due to the rain.We always strive to be transparent, fair, and professional, and we take pride in providing good value and attentive service to our guests. We believe that clear information and realistic expectations are essential for a positive stay.Kind Regards, team Alfons hotel

Lovely small hotel with excellent service
23 Dec 2025
We had a lovely 5-night stay at the hotel, thanks to the attentive service of its staff members and its great location. From the hotel It’s easy to go to the major attractions either on foot or by public transport. There are many restaurants and convenience stores around and we felt safe even when we went back to the hotel late at night. The breakfast was wonderful and there’s something different everyday. We want to commend Viola in particular as she’s proactive in providing what we need and always has a smiling face. We also appreciate Anna’s helpful assistance as we need to keep our luggage at the hotel until past the reception opening hours. One thing to note is that you have to carry your suitcases up or down a flight of stairs if you’re on 2/F or above as the lift stops mid floor. Though it’s a bit inconvenient, it’s ok for us. Overall, it’s a nice experience and we won’t hesitate to recommend this hotel to visitors of Prague.
