  Well located and friendly staff, but disappointing room condition and cleanliness

  The Hotel Royal enjoys an excellent location in the heart of Aarhus, and the staff were consistently friendly, welcoming and eager to help throughout our stay.Unfortunately, our experience in a Superior Room did not live up to expectations. The hotel often emphasizes the charm of its historic building, but being an old property should not be an excuse for neglecting maintenance and cleanliness.While the room certainly had character, many details felt simply old rather than charming. Decorative vases with dried plants were covered in visible dust. The water kettle was heavily scaled and still contained leftover water from previous guests. The bathroom bin was worn and damaged, and the bathrobes looked so heavily used that we were reluctant to wear them.The bathroom was particularly disappointing. Most fixtures showed water stains, limescale marks or roughened surfaces that suggested inadequate cleaning. The exhaust vent was covered in dust and looked quite unpleasant. After mentioning it to the staff, we were told it would be cleaned, but this never happened.Another issue was the air conditioning. Despite being set to cooling mode and later checked by staff, it appeared only to circulate air rather than cool the room. This significantly affected comfort.Housekeeping also fell short of expectations. There was no turndown service, and after returning late in the evening we had to request fresh towels ourselves.What makes this especially frustrating is the contrast between the excellent attitude of the staff and the condition of the room itself. Everyone we interacted with was genuinely kind and professional. However, I have rarely felt as uncomfortable in a hotel room because of cleanliness and maintenance issues as I did here.With better upkeep, deeper cleaning and more attention to detail, this could be a much stronger hotel. In its current state, I would not choose to stay here again.

  Great ambience, spacious and cosy rooms, delicious breakfast and excellent service from the hotel staff.Central location, so you do also hear the night life.

  Stayed for a single night. The hotel staff were super friendly and professional. The overall impression of the hotel is sumptuous, with beautiful chandeliers and an old-fashioned elevator that adds a lot of charm.While everything was very clean and well maintained, the room – and especially the bathroom – could benefit from some updating. That said, everything was fully functional and spotless. Room was also very quietBreakfast was excellent and served in the Queen’s Garden, with a good selection and very attentive staff. We also used the valet parking, which was a smooth and pleasant experience.I would have no problem recommending this hotel if you, like us, are looking for a romantic getaway.

  A home away from home

  This is definitely our preferred hotel when visiting Århus. Both for business and family travels. It is in a way a home away from home. The rooms are absolutely amazing, and the entire hotel is beautifully decorated with beautiful interior, and even the old elevator is a beautiful touch that kind of solidifies the whole experience of staying at the hotel. The staff is always smiling, and there to help and assist in every way they can. The breakfast room is beautiful, with its sky window ceiling and beautiful ceiling lights dropping down like stars. The food selection is a bit small, and I hope they will add more going forward. I also do miss the “bar” being open at night, for a glass of wine or a night cap. Maybe it is, but of all the times I’ve stayed there, the bar has been “closed.” We will be back soon.

  Real Grand Hotel in the heart of Aarhus right across the cathedral and lovely theatre.Rooms are large and super comfortable with luxury amenities Breakfast ist delicious with many local products.Staff is efficient and very helpful
