    Need facelift and restaurant/bar.

The location is quite good, with nice seafront and bus 26 terminus. Also metro from airport reasonably close. Scandic no longer has free breakfast which often makes the price non-competitive. Hotel has no restaurant and the snacks available at reception are not that good. Room was big but dated and smelled somewhat. We had two French balconies though. Staff was friendly.

    Unexpectedly positive experience!!

This is going to be a long review. We are presently finishing the last day of this hotel, and I am frankly delighted. I hadread the reviews for this hotel ahead of time. It was prepared for an unpleasant experience with older rooms, less than friendly staff, unusual smells, etc. My experience has been quite the opposite. Let’s start with the staff. They’ve been extremely helpful and friendly. The front desk person when we checked in was accommodating and was able to upgrade our friends’ room and spent about 10 minutes doing her best to upgrade ours. The rooms are good size. There are some things one might complain about. In our room the open door bumps into the toilet and blocks off the shower; no big deal. The shower is fine; good water pressure and immediate hot water. Our two twin beds are quite comfortable, and the bedding fresh and clean. No hint of leftover hair or anything similar ; if this was ever an issue it seems now taken care of. All the rooms are now non-smoking so I believe the complaint I read mentioning a stake cigarette smell has also been addressed. My spouse has an extremely sensitive nose and cannot tolerate bad smells, especially cigarette smoke. If some lights up nearby she moves as far away as possible. I asked her if she could smell anything in the room, and when she checked near the rug she advised me that there was perhaps a hint of smoke, but not much, and not enough to ever mention it again, which I guarantee from previous experiences would have caused repeated mentions otherwise. We did arrive early, at 9am, and were unable to check in until after 3pm. Yes, there is a charge to store luggage, as numerous other reviews have mentioned. The storage is automated lockers and not with the front desk, and both payment and retrieval seemed more cumbersome than needed. Yes, it is irksome. I can’t defend this, but at least I did know what to expect. This is the only negative from the reviews I’d read pre-visit that I found presently correct.Btw the front desk staff were helpful here, too. When we had trouble opening our locker, one of the two front desk personnel cheerfully came to the locker area and helped us out. I have an even better staff story! At 2:30am I woke up and discovered our electric adapter wasn’t charging my iPhone. After trying this and that I finally gave up and drowsily made my way to the front desk. The night manager checked off possible solutions, and finally came with me up to our room, and waited patiently for me to let my sleeping wife know he would be coming in to the bathroom area to check for an electrical problem. Once in, he efficiently figured out and corrected the issue, which was something simple I’d missed- showing no hint of exasperation, and waving off my apologies. Now: breakfast. My very strong opinion is that anyone criticizing this hotel’s breakfast is either the super-spoiled progeny of royalty, or a lunatic. The majority of previous reviews lauding this incredible outlay is on the money. To properly describe it would require twice as many words as this already too verbose review. Varieties of fresh bread. Croissants and danishes. Little chocolate strips. Ginger shots. Soft boiled eggs. A whole section for those with food sensitivities. Lots of fresh fruit and lots of dried fruits. Cheeses. Various vegetables. Stuff that was wonderful and that I had never seen in a breakfast buffet before. A variety of teas, coffees and juices. Cereals granola and yogurt. It was stupendous. Oh yes, let me also mention the staff was friendly, attentive and helpful without being intrusive. If anything ran out, it was reprovisioned very quickly. We did not spend any time much time in the lounge area, but it appeared to be quite comfortable and at least for some guests a great place to relax and play cards. We did not go to the gym so I cannot comment on that. We did rent bicycles at a reasonable price of 175 Danish currency for all day till midnight, including helmets. The hotel bicycles are heavier and clunkier then we are used to, but adequate. As should be clear, I have a very favorable view of this Scandic hotel. My experience is quite the opposite of what I was expecting based on the reviews I had read before arriving. I do not normally leave reviews at all, much less long ones. But given the very poor impression I had of this hotel previous to arriving, I felt a bit guilty, and in recompense wanted to share our VERY positive experience.

Location and view is with it. Besides, not the usual Scandic standard.

POSITIVE: Fantastic viewGreat locationVery comfortable bedVery good showerRoom has a good sizeExtremely UNKLIEABLE: Guests have to PAY for luggage storage!! Never ever experienced something like this in a hotelSTAFF: partly very friendly and helpful, but never really open.Upon arrival: lady very unfriendly, didn't smile, didn't create a warm welcome at all. Noticing, that Danish guests were greeted differently.NEGATIVE:Room and bathroom not well maintained and not completely clean:Bathroom shelf broken, heavy limescale buildup (already red)Sticky smudges on the windowsillFurniture scratched and, in some places, tornNo makeup/shaving mirror, no make-up accessories like cotton pads or at least Kleenex tissuesThe restaurant only is open for breakfast, no possibility to sit there with a laptop and workNot well sound proofed in the hotel (very noisy doors)Constructions in front of the building (neighboring hotel) and construction work inside the hotel — neither of which was mentioned on the website before booking!!! Screws sticking out dangerously on the walkable windowsill !!!

    Nice location but that’s it

I was quite disappointed with my stay here. The hotel is clearly in need of an update, and unfortunately, it shows in several areas. Our room was not properly cleaned—there was visible dust on the beds and it also had a strong, stale smell, almost like it had been smoked in years ago and then left closed up ever since. The furniture felt very outdated, and the TV didn’t work at all. The beds were a bit odd, very bumpy and glued to the nightstands so the nightstands would move each time you moved in your bed. But the most frustrating part of the stay was the room situation. We had specifically requested a twin room in advance, but were told at check-in that none were available. Then, suddenly, we were offered one for an extra €50. Since we were tired after traveling, we agreed—but looking back, the whole situation felt very questionable and left a bad impression. And since the room was in questionable condition, this felt more like a scam. Overall, this stay did not meet expectations or service level one would assume to get by booking Scandic, and I would not choose this hotel again.

Great location, succulent breakfast, very comfortable bed (despite a bit too small room with little storage) and very very kind service (thanks Mary!)
