    Surprised

    rating12 Jun 2026

It's fine we enjoyed the hotel overall. But when my wife came down with gastroenteritis Hotel no doctor or Nurse ...but more surprisingly no idea who is good to call a doctor and or pharmacy this hugely disappointing ....Breakfast was football scrum as the weather still good to sit outside ...but some smokers reserve family tables for their personnel smoking area away from their table stopping other guests to sit out side ....Suited management refused to ask the ashtray reservers to move. One morning a visit from GM and things definitely improved with his floor walk.....check out a busy day was expected chaos ,which could have been handled more effectively .....still amazed no one from management asked how my wife was having only eaten at hotel ......hey ho must happen a lot ....landscape and golf course was delightful....two staff Zaid House boy was really helpful with my wife sick changing extra sheets and towels etc , and Majed seemed to work everywhere ,pool F and B posh restaurant and morning breakfast.....The main kitchen did an attempt at Rice porridge , better than nothing admittedly, thanks to them.Overall for a BonVoy group not overly impressed.......maybe spoilt Dubai and Far East versions .

    A Perfect Haven of Relaxation

    rating29 May 2026

We booked to stay at The Westin Cairo having found it through the Marriott app, and based on the pictures shown on their website. Myself and my wife were looking for somewhere we could go to shut down, relax, and completely unwind for 6 nights as a break away from work and the general busy day to day events of life.We were not disappointed. The communication with the hotel in advance was mostly good - I contacted them about arranging a car to collect us from the airport which was sorted quickly and easily ($55 USD cost per trip), and was told that my requests regarding my wife's Birthday whilst we were staying, and an enquiry about possible day trips would be answered by another department - sadly neither of these points were addressed in advance, but that is a side-note.Upon arrival in Cairo airport we were met by a man with a sign who got us through customs, helped us collect our bags, and then got us out to the car. The car was there waiting and whisked us away from the airport quickly, depositing us at the hotel roughly 30 minutes later. The standard of the hotel was set as I stepped out of the car and was greeted by name upon arrival - a really lovely touch which made us feel valued. The check-in process was easy and smooth, and we were told that due to our Marriott membership we had been upgraded to room 3005 which was a pool view room with a balcony, instead of the garden view room we had booked, another nice touch. We were then shown to a golf cart which drove us around to the room and helped us get our bags inside, leaving us to unpack and get sorted in what turned out to be an absolutely enormous room, with a lovely balcony with seating on it.The room amenities are nice, with a massive comfy bed, a good sized bathroom which had both a bath and a shower, an enormous TV on the wall which we didn't use once, a mini-bar, a coffee machine, a kettle, a safe, a comfy seat, and of course the balcony with two seats and a little table. Yes there are signs around the room that it could do with a little updating (marks on the artwork and slight peeling of the varnish on the balcony edging), but the room was more than comfortable for what we wanted.Over the course of our stay we tried all three places to eat: - Dunes Bar - a relatively good selection of bar-style food including salads, sandwiches, pizza, and a few other bits and bobs. The prices were reasonable and the drinks menu comprehensive, even through we stuck mostly to the same two drinks all week. - Paloma Restaurant - great for breakfast however the hot drinks machine didn't have hot chocolate all week, with a great selection of food including freshly cooked options. The evening menu, however, was 90% the same as the bar menu, with only a couple of different dishes added to it. We ate there once during our time there, and it was good, but quiet and lacking atmosphere, largely because it was so quiet. - Mare Social - the food here is excellent, and we chose to eat here for my wife's Birthday as a celebration. It's pricier than the other two options, however the food is well presented, well prepared, and very tasty. We discussed going back a second time but ultimately, ran out of nights there - it's nice for a more formal dinner where the other two places are more relaxed. We used the outdoor pool on two separate days, seizing a sun-lounger and simply watching the world go by. There is a good number of lifeguards on duty and the pool is clearly popular with guests, even though it's quite chilly at first when you get in. This is the one area where I do, potentially, have a minor issue with things though. The service from the staff at the pool was particularly slow - and whilst this isn't the end of the world, we did find ourselves waiting a long time for a drink as they didn't seem interested in following up with us as to whether we wanted another or not. They were friendly enough, just not very fast or attentive. The bigger issue with the pool though was other guests, and some of the behaviour. The pool with the swim up bar is clearly labelled as an adult only pool, and the lifeguards did their best to enforce this however some parents who seemed intent on sitting in big groups in the pool whilst drinking all afternoon seemed determined to argue with the lifeguards and ignore the requests for their children to not be in the pool. Not the fault of the hotel, but a point of note.We also used the indoor pool and spa facilities and found them to be excellent overall. The indoor pool is slightly chillier than I had expected, but refreshing none-the-less, and the massage on offer (we went for a Couples Massage for approximately 9,000 Egyptian pounds for 90 minutes) was exceptional, and left us feeling so relaxed that we went back for a second one a few days later as a real treat. The only gripe I had with the overall facilities in the spa was when I went for a haircut and was quite clear that I only wanted a hair and beard trim, but ended up with a facial and head massage, a facial steaming and a hair wash bringing the cost in at 3,000 Egyptian pounds - again, not the end of the world, but not what I asked for.Overall this was the perfect place for us given that we wanted a relaxing shut down for our time away. I can't comment on what trips and options are available as regards getting out from the hotel since we didn't use any and weren't provided with the information, however there was signage around which suggested trips were available and the concierge was there to help.A big thank you to the entire team at The Westin Cairo for making us feel so welcome, and for giving us such a relaxing time away - we will most certainly be back again in the future.
