Salla - in the middle of nowhere.

Our stay at Sallatunturi Holiday Club Kelorinne was truly wonderful. The cabins were cozy, clean, and beautifully set in the peaceful Lapland nature. The atmosphere was calm and relaxing, perfect for a winter getaway. We especially loved the sauna and the stunning snowy landscapes right outside the door. A perfect place to unwind and enjoy the magic of the north.

Picture postcard views all around the resort as it was mid-January and totally snow covered although cold.Staff were friendly and helpful. Accommodation was warm, comfortable and cosy. We don't ski but there was still plenty to do including local walks, wildlife parks a short drive away and a selection of cafe's/restaurants all within a few minutes walk. We had a thoroughly enjoyable week.

    Beautiful trip to Salla

I seldom leave reviews but rely on them a lot so thought I’d give one based on our experience so far.We are half way through a 1 week holiday staying in the Kelorinne Log Cabins. We arrived at the airport and went to our transfer which was a minibus with only one of person travelling to the resort with us. We went straight to a nearby supermarket and were given 30 mins to do a shop. I had a made a list of what I needed to get and had packed whatever dry goods I could as my daughter is coeliac so wanted to be as prepared as possible. 30 mins was a bit of a rush but the rep had said not to worry if we went over and we were about 40 mins in the end. I took carrier bags with us.From there it took about 1h 20mins to get to the resort. We checked in at reception and grabbed a couple of sledges and then the minibus driver drove us a bit closer but this may be because he didn’t have many passengers. Our suitcases didn’t fit on the sledges but our shopping bags did so the sledge was handy for that. It was a bit of effort getting the suitcases up the hill but at least it only has to be done once. The cabin is lovely. We are 2 adults and have lots of space. It would be fine with 2 children in here as there is a bunkbed area off to the side but I think 4 adults would be a bit of a squeeze. The cabin is so warm and the underfloor heating is amazing. The kitchen is small but for 2 of us it works. The sink is tiny though and hard to wash up in but luckily there’s a small dishwasher. There’s plenty of toilet paper/kitchen towels and washing up liquid so you don’t need to bring any of these. Matches for the fire are also provided. We are half way along the top row of cabins and realised after a couple of days that if you go to the end you can get straight onto the small blue run and down to the lifts and come back that way. It’s a flat road so hard to ski along but saves walking up the hill. The condition of the runs are out of this world. It’s been snowing so we’ve had lots of fresh powder and they’ve been practically empty. My daughter has had skiing lessons and her instructor has been fantastic. There aren’t a lot of runs though and some of them only open in the February holiday. Also there’s a small steep bit that comes back into the resort so it’s making my daughter unsure about going up to try the other blues. I’ve paid for an extra lesson for the instructor to take her up to the nicer blues at the top and then to bring her back down the trickier bit. So although it is a good resort for beginners, if they don’t have much confidence they’ll get stuck on the tiny blue at the bottom for the whole week. We’ve booked a Husky Safari with Salla Wilderness Park. If they don’t have availability shown on their website email them as I looks like they add extra dates depending on demand. They do charge €14 pp to come and collect/return you. I believe if you book through Crystal transfers are included even though they charge more for the trip but would work out a bit cheaper. We were just unorganised and running out of time so decided to pay for the transfers to make sure we could do the trip.We haven’t been to any of the restaurants or bar yet. We’ve seen they do gluten free pizzas in the Kelo-Ravintola restaurant just down from the cabins so are planning to go there for dinner on our last night. The shop in the reception has mostly snack food but does sell cartons of milk. If you’re not planning on hiring a car to drive to Salla you really do need to be organised in your meal planning unless you’re planning on eating out a lot. The scenery is out of this world and worth coming here just for that! The week started at -25 but has been about -15 on the slopes most days which has been fine. Just make sure you have lots of layers.

We had an amazing time here. Lovely area and plenty of snow and outdoor activities to do. The spa was great too.

Middle of nowhere, but lots to do!

Very cool, albeit remote place. The people are all very nice. Highly recommend bringing your own skins if you want to go uphill. They don't rent this type of gear. Highlights were definitely the northern lights tour via snowmobile/sled and dog sledding. The snowmobiles are only worth it if you go in a very small group and not an introductory tour. Snowshoeing, biking, and skiing were all great as well. We booked breakfast and dinner as a meal plan, and that seemed well worth it.
