    Guethary is a gorgeous town

    rating15 Sept 2022

Spent one night on our journey South. Guethary itself is a gem, and I’m delighted we visited, but there is limited accommodation available in the town. There are a surprising amount of highly rated restaurants, and the costal views are spectacular. We booked Catarie because it had parking and a central location. Make sure you ask for the gate code in advance, as parking is tight, and the entrance to the hotel is just before the town road restricted zone. We arrived at lunchtime and were able to easily park and find a nice spot for lunch by the beach. By teatime there was no space left in the car park.We were ‘upgraded ‘ to room 2 on the ground floor, but the room was dated, musty and very hot. We had 2 fans, but they were not enough to cool the room. As we were on the ground floor, I wasn’t comfortable leaving the windows open overnight, so unfortunately didn’t have a great night. The bed itself was comfortable to be fair, and we were not bothered by any external noise. I think it was very expensive for the experience we had.

During the summer season there is entertainment in the village of Guéthary and we have a central location. Our windows are soundproofed to overcome this inconvenience

    A friendly family run hotel

    rating23 Jul 2017

We had three comfortable nights here. It is an older family run hotel. No restaurant but that is no hardship. Guethary has plenty and the are all walking distance from the hotel. Breakfast is very good and there is a terrace if you want to eat out. The beach is five minutes away. The train station, with services to Biarritz and St Jean de Luce is the same. No noise from the trains though. We parked our car for the three day and visited everywhere by train. A good base to explore the Basque coast. Very enjoyable.

Fantastic welcom from Tristan who could not do enoufgh for us.We had al really lovely bedroom on the second floor, with w balcony, full of flowers. We had drinks on their lovely terrace, again surrounded by flowers. We were provided with every single thing we could possibly want. There was a mini bar, all at reasonable prices. The bathroom had every single thing you could possibly imagine, including lovely fluffy white towelling dressing gowns on the back of the bathroom door. The walk in showe was great, the water hot, and had great force. Perfect. Breakfast wa included in the costof the room, and everything and more we could possibly want, all personaly served to our table. There is also a swimming pool shared with the flats next door, but hardly used at least whilst we were there. Yes it was sad there was not a so called 'bar' but most certainly drinks were available to order, and what nicer than to sit in their lovely terrace with a glass of wine, or what ever and watch the world go by!!Whilst it might have been disappointing that the hotel did not provide evening meals, there are so many bistros, cafes, Tapas bars, restauraunts, even one with so it advertises one Michelin star, so the world is your oyster. Lovely beach, good surf, again a very very short distance away. What more can you possibly want. An Addison all bonus, they have a lift and adequate safe parking villacatarie, Responsable réception at Villa Catarie, responded to this review Dear Mrs Dtilbury,Thank you so much for your kind feedback following your recent stay with us.I have passed on your kind comment to the team, and we are all delighted that you enjoyed our property and our services.
