What a great hotel! I will be back. The room was very nice. I found the staff very attentive and helpful and professional. Dining in the on site restaurant is exceptional. So convenient for the St Jean train station which is why I stayed here.

Great location and good soundproof room

    rating30 Aug 2025

We stayed only one night in Superior room was excellent. Staff were friendly and welcoming.Hotel located the front of Gare Saint Jean is really handy and convenient. (Airport bus will arrive at the station and only a few minutes walk to the hotel)The room was spacious, clean and very quiet even the front of busy station! Also has a good air conditioning (we arrived in Bordeaux was hot day) so we could had very good night sleep. Room price was around €110 for Superior room (without breakfast) it is really value for money. Also offers great range of breakfast (cold meats, pastries, hot foods, etc.), you can add it on site if you choose room only. It €19 per person, it’s a bit expensive but we enjoyed. We definitely come back.

Great base for exploring Bordeaux and surrounding areas

    rating21 Aug 2025

Nice clean hotel, great location. Situated directly across from the main station in Bordeaux, it’s a great base to visit St Emilion or Arcachon or other destinations. The tram stop outside allows easy access to the city centre. The area is quiet, the rooms are spacious and clean, the staff welcoming and helpful. We stayed room only and breakfasted at a coffee shop across from the hotel.

An excellent hotel in a strategic location at the train station

The Mercure Bordeaux Centre Gare Atlantic is an ideal location to stay at if you have a lot of luggage and / or want to stay close to the Gare St Jean station for convenience. It is right across the station within a 2 minute walk and offers express check in and check out services. Rooms are well appointed and spacious, and apart from good air conditioning (which is a must in summer here in Bordeaux with temp reaching over 40 Deg C!), the hotel also has an elevator which is a welcome feature for those traveling with luggage. In addition, the staff are very friendly and helpful and went out of their way to ensure that we had a great stay (special shout out to Vicky for all her help - you are truly an asset to the hotel) and will even help you make reservations and guide you with detailed instructions and maps. All in all, a great place to stay right at the station and well connected with both bus and tram to the rest of the city.

Unhelpful staff - avoid at all costs!!!

    rating26 Sept 2023

The hotel staff (short and curly haired lady) in the reception wasn’t helpful and always gave us a blank stare when we were talking to her. She didn’t seem to understand English and made no attempts to provide any further help when asked. Firstly, when we told her that the phone in our room is not working, she just gave us a blank stare and said all phones are not working, is ok. She kept giving us a blank stare, so we gave up and had to live with needing to come down for every single thing we need because the phone wasn’t working. Secondly, for breakfast, they make you fry your own eggs, which is ok. But they serve breakfast until 11am during the weekends, and when we came down at 10.15am and there was barely anything left. There was only 1 egg left, and when we asked for more, she said that there’s no more and walked away. How could there be no raw eggs?! That’s the most basic thing. They need eggs for every dish and it’s highly impossible to not have any raw eggs left! The eggs are the only thing we can eat for breakfast as the rest are just bread. She insisted we eat the pre-mixed scrambled eggs instead, which of course we had no choice but didn’t really like. Next, when we asked her for help to get a taxi, we told her this one hour in advance. But when the time came for us to leave, she dismissively said to wait for 1-2mins. We waited for 5 mins, and when we asked her again, she said just wait for 10 mins and the cab is coming. We waited for 15 mins and still no cab! All she said to us was that they’re having a circulation problem. And all the time she was speaking to us in French, when she already knew we couldn’t speak French! I tried to use google translate but whatever she was saying, even after translation, still doesn’t make sense (logically). In the end, we just booked an Uber ourselves and we got the car in 2 minutes!! She could have just informed us to get a Uber instead of just muttering things in French which we didn’t understand. Really ruined our 3 days there and our impression of Bordeaux! Thankfully we moved to a different hotel and the difference in service level was stark! Our new hotel and experience with their staff made whatever time we had left in Bordeaux more enjoyable. Never stay in this hotel if you don’t speak French. And if you want to have a good time in Bordeaux, stay away from this hotel! Constance CHANONI, General Manager at Mercure Bordeaux Centre Gare Atlantic, responded to this review Dear GlobeTrotting427400, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback about your stay at Mercure Bordeaux Gare Atlantic. We are sorry to hear that your stay with us was not up to your expectations. At Mercure Bordeaux Gare Atlantic, we pride ourselves on providing exceptional customer service and it is disheartening to hear that a member of our team has not met the high standards of service our guests have come to expect from us. We strive to be warm and welcoming in all guest interactions, and we apologize if that was not your experience. We understand that language barriers can make it difficult for our guests to get the best out of their visit, so we take care of ensuring our reception staff is adequately trained in both English and French languages. Unfortunately, it appears as though this did not meet your expectations during your visit this time around. Thank you again for bringing this situation to our attention; we take all feedback seriously and will use it as an opportunity to improve the quality of services offered in order to ensure a better experience for all future guests.Thomas MITON - Reception Manager
