Unpretentious but rather spartan budget hotel with a good central location

    rating25 Apr 2026

It's functional, but rather Spartan - and note that the room was small with no fridge. The location is right opposite the main train and bus station - excellent for easy transport transfers to and from the hotel, and most of the main attractions are within a 15-20 minute walk, including Le Suquet old town overlooking the old port. The downside of the central location is that bedrooms at the front (and also above Rue 23 Aout at the east side) are noisy till at least midnight.Staff were friendly, and helpful with tips about local transport etc. There is breakfast available on a pleasant roof terrace (part covered and partly al fresco). The terrace view is mostly nearby buildings but you can see the historic old town at Le Suquet. Breakfast costs 8 euros extra I think - check that price first. I had two - the breakfast buffet was adequate: cereals, toast, French bread, boiled eggs, ham & cheese, small croissants and slices of cake. A pity there were no pains chocolats! The coffee machines worked fine with a decent selection - the fruit juice machine was also OK (orange or apple). Fresh fruits and yoghurts were available every day.As expected there were a few niggles - (1) a shelf in an awkward place (photo 1) - it protrudes above the bed - was either an obstruction for my head unless you ducked under it, or you scraped your shins on the corner of the bed trying to avoid banging into the shelf. I did collide with it twice, even though I made a mental note to avoid it after the first hit. Bad design, not good feng shui here. (2) There was a missing shelf in the bathroom - though it wasn't a problem as I had the double room to myself.(3) You need to move the tray with the kettle and 2 tea bags and paper cups (Note: no free coffee, only tea and no milk) in order to plug it in - there's no plug near the shelfThe room safe on the shelf was free to use. The shower was hot and worked OK.

People there ( Management ) don't know WHAT means Tourism & Hospitality Industry. They'd be better off working in some other field.

    Excellent location. Pleasant staff.

    rating20 Jul 2025

Excellent location, directly opposite Cannes Railway Station. 5 minute walk to the Promenade. Lots of shops & restaurants close by.Very pleasant reception staff who all spoke English, especially Herve (pronounced Her Vay) A well travelled Man who spoke fluent English. The Hotel is what it is. It suited myself and my Son for four nights. It would have been better with a fridge though. First time in Cannes

    rating09 Jul 2025

Very good central location, close to shops, bars and restaurants. Opposite Cannes train station takes about 1 hr to go to Monaco/ Monte Carlo. Half an hour to Nice. Hotel staff were very nice no problems at all the 2 staff at breakfast were very friendly. Room cleaned everyday with towels replaced, clean room and bathroom was better than our 4 star hotel in Turkey!! Was allowed an extra hr in the room on checking out for free as a late flight and able to leave luggage for free. If you want to look for faults you will find them, we didn’t as too busy enjoying all Cannes and the coast has to offer. Camille R, Service clients/Réception at Hotel L'Esterel, responded to this review Dear Valued Guest,We are grateful for your kind words and are pleased to know that you enjoyed our prime location and the proximity to key attractions.
