Hotel let down by breakfast standard

    rating26 Sept 2026

We stayed at this hotel for 6 nights, it has a stunning outlook overlooking the Medieval City and the Bridge, we sat out in the garden most evenings after a day out sightseeing enjoying the views. Our room was adequate and the balcony overlooked the Chateau; the bathroom was quite modern with a good shower and a bath. Toiletries, dressing gown, fluffy towels, slippers and a really good hairdryer provided. However, the somewhat luxurious bedding they promote we felt was lacking, split on one corner and quilt popping out. There were only 3 hangers in the small wardrobe. The indoor pool although cold we felt refreshing after 34 deg heat outside, once in you got used to the temperature. This hotel is let down by its chaotic breakfast service which is a real shame as it could be so much better. We were surprised this had not improved after seeing previous reviews from 2024! Staff seem to wander around aimlessly even when guests were asking for breakfast items, such as more plates, more hot water, more cutlery, fault with coffee machine, bread and other dishes needed replenishing constantly. Tables needed clearing so as guests had somewhere to eat once they had their buffet items. Instead, you found yourself clearing tables and finding your own place mats and cutlery. We felt it definitely needed a Maître d’ overseeing the dining area, welcoming the guests and directing the staff. On a positive note, it’s a good location for both the old city and the new city. Two restaurants worth visiting ‘Pantani’ in the square in the new town, lovely host, small menu and good food. Other restaurant on the outskirts of the town Brasserie a 4 Temps, advised to book beforehand for this restaurant.

Excellent hotel...but a bit let down by breakfast.

    rating10 Sept 2026

Great hotel, superb location for exploring both sides of Carcassonne. The rooms were lovely, clean, well serviced, and large. The staff were friendly, helpful and polite - by and large this hotel should rate a 5/5, it's a great place to stay. However the thing that let this hotel down was the breakfast service (I didn't dine at the hotel so cannot comment on the other lunch/dinner food service). Not the breakfast food itself, (that was fine) but the organisation and replenishment of it. France, renowned for it's coffee was put to shame by the three rather fragile Nespresso (pouch, not pods) machines that served for breakfast. They were routinely running out of water, jamming etc. Only black coffee was available, and no hot milk provided, just cold milk - ergo a white coffee was pretty much a cold coffee! Other aspects of breakfast let it down as well - the general clearing of tables was not up to speed. It meant lots of tables 'available' but still covered in the previous diners used breakfast plates/cups etc. Also when food, drink or items (e.g. plates/glasses) ran out, it caused a backlog of diners waiting for the resupply, and consequently as soon as things were replenished, they ran out almost instantly again! Please don't be put off though - I'd definitely still recommend this hotel as a great place to stay in the wonderful city of Carcassonne.

Find some place else to stay

    rating04 Sept 2026

Dated furnishings and grumpy staff (exceptMarie who was funny and kind.) The bartender was exceptionally rude both evenings and became angry when I asked (in French!) for a cosmopolitan for which he had all the ingredients but simply did not feel like making. Skip the breakfast buffet trough—the Nepresso machine didn't work properly and when I asked a staff member for a cappuccino (in French) he seemed genuinely perplexed, but finally after 20 minutes and another request I received some coffee with hot milk! ??????? For reasons that were unclear tous, we got placed in a handicap room and the shower was in full view of the bed?! We had to hang both robes over the glass shower door so we were not in full view ofthe room. The room decor was hideous and so dated! What was good about this hotel? The view (if you ask for one) is quite nice.

    Not 5 star

    rating28 Aug 2026

This is not a 5 star hotel! It’s a 4 star. The cleanliness is questionable and the staff are not very attentive. We came down for breakfast at 9am, breakfast finishes at 10 amfor context. Every table was full of dirty plates etc and left us with no where to sit. I asked a waitress if she could clear a table for us. She proceeded to place the dirty crumb filled place matts on the guest chairs. Sprayed the table off and left. No clean cutlery which we ended up searching for our selves. We then proceeded to place the place matts back on the table and sweep the crumbs from our chairs. The continental breakfast buffet had no butter or available hot water to make tea etc. the garden area which has stunning views was not well maintained which seemed such a shame. We are fairly easy going and relatively relaxed, however, when you book 5 star there are basic levels of service and comfort that are usually standard throughout 5 star hotels.

If you like dirty rooms and dog hairs, you get a nice view!

    rating01 Aug 2026

First warning is the tatty signage.Second total refusal to offer parking and repeated emails to check in online.Very annoying.Room - mould in bathroom (which is open to room) inc bath which takes a hour to fill and the plug needs to removed with a spoon ….Dog hair everywhere….Only redeeming feature was the view!Bar dark and dingy as was the gym and restaurant.
